When aiming the bow there wasn't even one shred of emotion. None, nothing, nadda. Sure she'll be fine though.

They just had to throw in that clip with the Heckler & Koch USP Match to tie it in to the original Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies I guess. Maybe it just hasn't aged well, but the whole movie just looks so damn generic and cliche.

Pretty sure those were in the early games before the Jolie movies.

@Excalibur, she has won an oscar. Hopefully it wasn't a fluke.

I think it looks like a video game turned into a movie. National Treasure made some serious bank with the same sort of premise working on the trail blazed by Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, Nathan Drake with a few dashes of the intelligence of the Da Vinci Code so I expect this will do reasonably well.

The poster looks like shit but outside of the poster I think she's pretty hot, she just doesn't live up to the classic Lara Croft Tomb Raider image. If I didn't know anything about Lara Croft I wouldn't give a shit.

Unfortunately, I do know who Lara Croft is and that is one thing the movie will have to work really hard to overcome to make me happy with it.

Didn't you say the same thing about Cara Delevigne? :smh: They both look like pre-adolescent boys.

The movie itself looks like a fun popcorn flick. Action, action, more action...just absolutely no sex appeal at all. Zero. NONE.

To be precise, it looks like the reboot Tomb Raider game almost to a T.

And incomplete at that. At 1:10 into the clip she is jumping from half a ship for... nothing. Where is the other half? Probably will be added later

It fits right in with the new games. I play the games for the platforming and shooting, not the story. I'll wait until it's on Amazon Video or Netflix at no extra charge.

LOL, a genius idea...the theater crowd pays to get in and, depending upon how much they pay at certain points of the film (through their phones and a special app), you get the rest of the film as $DLC in a 'pay your own adventure story' kind of way. Pay too little? You get the 'missing boat' and no ending.

Might happen. Someone in Hollywood must be thinking this.

I did indeed. Back in the Day I calibrated my standards of physical beauty to Carrie Fisher (Star Wars/Blue Brothers era), Erin Gray, Kathy Ireland, and Heather Locklear (TJ Hooker era); I haven't changed much. They were all pretty much lithe but curvy, tight rear, flat toned midriff, on the smaller bust size (though not all, of course). Both Cara and Alicia fit that mold in the modern day.

Otherwise, think of the typical Victoria's Secret model or what used to be the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Editions (until they started celebrating unhealthy body types) and you'd be in the ballpark.

Game journalism is hard.

As an old fart who has been writing about games for more than 20 years, I find that most of the younger game writers really don't have the frame of reference to talk about the game genres they are writing about. Their FPS experience only goes back as far as Black Ops and their strategy experience only goes back to Starcraft II.

The same thing seems to be true of movie reviewers, I find when you speak to a lot of them that other than a few classics they just haven't seen very many films and really nothing older than about 10 years ago at the oldest and seldom even films that go back that far.

Experience does count.

Naw, I'm sure a lot of the reviewers at least tried to watch a few of the AFI top 100 like Citizen Kane. They probably got bored halfway through.

If you want to find out who is legit ask them:

What movie did the song "Maria", which Robert De Niro sang while he was pretending to be insane in Analyze That, come from? (West Side Story, #41).

What was the reason a bounty was set and ultimately brought Clint Eastwood's character William Munny out of retirement in Unforgiven (#98; a prostitute got her face slashed and a bounty was collected by the other prostitutes in the house and Munny was broke)

William Friedkin was nominated for two academy awards, winning once as Best Director for The French Connection (#70) what supernatural film generated his other Best Director nomination? (The Exorcist)

What Native American tribe did Best Director winner Kevin Costner become an honorary member of due to his respectful cultural depiction in Dances with Wolves (#75; the Sioux Nation)

Was the Nurse Ratchet character from M*A*S*H* (#56) or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (#20)? One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. M*A*S*H* was "Hot Lips" Houlihan but played by a different actress in the TV show.

If all else fails throw them an easy ones like:
What was the source material for Apocalypse Now? (#38 , Based on Heart of Darkness)?

Or how do you know when an Angel gets their wings? (Everytime a bell rings; It's a Wonderful Life #11)

These aren't trick questions like the Mandela Effect like "What color is C-3PO (Star Wars #15) Gold, but he has one silver leg or what did Vader actually say to Luke when explaining he was his father "No, I am your father" not "Luke I am your father"

EDIT FOR SPELLING.

Sierra becomes Cendant, becomes Havas, becomes Vivendi Universal, becomes Activision Blizzard. All of these are the same database entry, so if you check the latest list, even a game like "Caesar III" was published by Activision Blizzard. How is an 18-years old intern supposed to understand there were companies before that?

Then again, even I didn't know that Core Design was bought up by Rebellion. Did you? Looks like they were closed in 2010, though...

That is the beauty of something like Wikipedia which usually has a history rundown, so you can see the original developer and publisher.

Very true. However, the opposite extreme would be those folks who so continually name drop obscure references to historical works to prove their own elite status that they end up pissing off the reader with their arrogant self-satisfying smug style.

I've encountered that as well as the 'shallow' side of the reviewing pool. Both suck.

Nope, it is way too easy to memory hole something in Wikipedia. This is actually the second part of the huge failure of Wikipedia.

This, combined with the bias of the elite editors makes Wikipedia a place where information is tainted and can be changed, often without question because it is often considered a source of truth (despite the warnings it should not be considered a primary source).

It is not perfect, but it is still better than trying to rely solely on a single source or your memories. For technical things, such as finding the game developer, Wikipedia will be pretty accurate. But anything else, were things are interpretations or opinion, it can be pretty iffy.
