Pax 2019

God help me, I'm going after at least five years away.

I'm not going to go for the gamer culture or the Penny Arcade community. I have been through too much shit and I am almost terrified how much the culture has had its worst excesses let run wild. I also have a MUCH different perspective on Jerry & Mike and where they are situated in the world. The people I care about at Penny Arcade have already moved on from the company.

But the convention is still what I wanted as a kid: E3 for Everyone. I hope Death Stranding and other hot titles are there.

Anyone else looking forward to this? Badges are still available.

I still love PAX Prime as long as I stay away from the panels, which are woke-fests of wokieness telling me how everything about everything I love about gaming is is wrong and bad.

The booths, the games, the companies that come out and shill all their cool gaming stuff. FUN FUN FUN!

I've done PAX East and some other lesser conventions (like E3, which is garbage compared to any instance of PAX), Dragon, Gen-con and so on and this is by far the best outside of maybe San Diego Comic-con.

I haven't had the chance to go to Gamescon though.

I forgot it used to be called PAX Prime. When did they drop that moniker?

I bet it is because they didn't want the other PAXs to seem like they were second fiddle.

But they are. PAX Seattle is still the big dog.

I got tickets for Sunday. I enjoy going every year. I used to go all 3/4 days but that's a bit much anymore. 1 or 2 days is perfect.

I went to the very first one at the Meydebauer Center. Back then it was conference rooms with televisions setup on long tables. It was a passion project. I volunteered as an Enforcer and enjoyed the experience.

I got out once they were forced to pay workers minimum wage; somehow assigning value to the passion drained it all away. But Seattle will always be PAX Prime.
