So basically Lethal Protector Of The Planet of the Symbiotes? My money is on Carnage as the main villain. Can't studios get away from the same plot for almost every superhero movie? Hero faces anti-version of themselves?

The fact that the black tentacles don't rip his jacket...kinda bugs me. Usually that type of stuff doesn't bother me... but here... it doesn't make any sense, right?

Well, unless his jacket IS the Symbiote. Isn't that how it worked in the comics? I think the symbiotic can be any color it wants. It's just naturally black. So it morphed itself to be Peter's over-clothes.

This looks terrible even though Tom Hardy looks like he's acting his butt off and doing a great job. It just looks like it takes itself way too seriously for Venom to look so silly at the end.

I think Venom IS the jacket. It's his cloths. That's how it was in the comics at least.

My thought when I first saw the black tentacles was: Are they making a movie version of The Darkness 2?

EDIT: GRR, Jaz beat me to it. I need to press SAVE faster...

Venom looks and sounds right. Tom Hardy is good, although his "American" accent always makes me laugh. The cliched evil corporation/lab/weapons manufacturer lead by a cookie cutter greedy dude is tiring. Will rent or more likely torrent instead of skipping altogether.

It looks better than my admittedly low expectations.

That is why I liked Sandman and the Vulture. Both of them had real motivations. Funny the only decent villains we have seen in these movies have been in the Spider-Man movies.

Well, the problem is Hollywood and the awful, hacky screenwriting cliche of “make it personal”. The best scripts are the ones where the villain is out living their own life and just happen to intersect with the hero. The best Batman The Animated Series episodes are like this. Clayface, Clock King, Mr Freeze, etc are just off living their own dramas when the hero is pulled into it to stop them from achieving their less than Nobel dreams.

But Hollywood wants the heroband the villain to be united by “fate” in order to give it some word of nebulous spiritual resonance. It’s boting and stupid.

Tom Hardy's american accent reminds me of chaning tatum's 21 jump street latino gang impression of a character called sleepy "My name is yeff".

Also the venom CG...looks like he's made of fondant. Looks like shit in the year of our lord 2018.

To me, when he's talking to himself/Venom it sounds like Sean Penn doing Harvey Milk. Still, I think it'll be a good movie and something I'll catch in the theaters.

How far will they go to distance themselves from Spider-Man? Without wall crawling and web/tendril swinging, he really be just a big screen version of Darkness 2 like Pacer said. Hard to tell from the trailer, but it looks like they removed the Spider chest emblem, too.

I just don't see how they could do a proper Venom movie without at least acknowledging the symbiote's connection to Spider-Man.

Weren't there some rumors that the movie "Life" was an intro story for the "Venom" movie? I don't know anything about the comic book (or really any comic books), but does the "Life Foundation" reference suggest the rumor is true?

Sandman was an amazing character played by the perfect actor that was totally spoiled in a horrendous movie. If they had dropped the black suit/Venom from Spiderman 3 it would have been the best of the series.

There are some badly kept secrets about Tom Holland having a cameo in the Venom movie and Tom Hardy in the upcoming animated Spiderman movie.

I dunno but considering Ryan Renolds, who plays Deadpool, starred as a character (who died) in Life I doubt there is any real cross-over.

Plus the symbiote implies it needs a host to act/react. In the case of the life form in Life it was self contained. It didn't need a host.

EDIT: Also the crash site they apparently find the symbiote is way bigger than the one in Life.

I really wish Eddie Brock / Venom was somewhat of a villain like he was in the comics. I mean, he wasn't Carnage bad, but he wasn't Spider-Man good either.

That kept alternating back and forth between looking really good and really bad. I think I'm giving it too much credit because it has Tom Hardy in it. Probably better off just watching Warrior again instead of this.

He wasn't really much of a villain in the comics. In his original run, in Spiderman, he was definitely a villain. But as soon as he became popular and warranted his own book, Marvel turned him into an "Anti-hero". He's spent more time as a good-guy than he has as a villain, all-told. That's largely why they invented Carnage. They wanted to have their cake and eat it too. So they kept Venom as a hero and made Carnage his replacement.

Does anybody know if there has ever been an ongoing series where the main character began a villain and stayed a villain? No redemptive arc at all? Dark Avengers is the closest I can think, but even then SOME of them were trying to be good guys.
