Angry League of Legends DB Hacked! Passwords Stolen

If you play LoL on EU servers, your password has been hacked / revealed >_> Make sure it's not the same password you use with a WoW account, etc.
Quote:
After thorough and urgent investigation with help from independent security experts, we have determined:
  • Hackers gained access to certain personal player data contained in certain EU West and EU Nordic & East databases ; as a security precaution, we're emailing all players on these platforms
  • The most critical data accessed included email address, encrypted account password, summoner name, date of birth, and Ė for a small number of players Ė first and last name and encrypted security question and answer
  • Absolutely no payment or billing information of any kind was included in the breach
Even though we store passwords in encrypted form only, our security investigation determined that more than half of the passwords were simple enough to be at risk of easy cracking.
(via Hackernews)
See the official security alert on LoL's website here.

Apparently over 10,000 of their users had the exact same password >_> What was it, 'password'?

Naw that doesn't fit most password requirements, Password1 is where it's at.

A while ago I started taking advantage of yahoo's Disposable Addresses system (all the e-mail addresses you can eat linked to the same account) meaning not only do I have a different password for each account but also a different e-mail.

Of course I'm sure eventualy yahoo will get hacked!

In the UK at least, banks are required to have anual security testing by external auditors and you don't oftern hear of a bank loosing all your passwords. Wouldn't it be great if the gaming industry got itself tested every now and again, they have to realise by now they are a target and need to start catching the basic errors.

There is also this:

http://www.slate.com/articles/techno...hnique_.2.html

I've been choosing longer passwords, which I have to write down. Since I don't work for the CIA, the odds of someone breaking into my home to steal passwords is vanishingly small. Longer passwords stored "encrypted" in a database are better for the longer length and unusual letter combinations.

If possible, use a pass-phrase, not just a password, like the article suggests.

LOL at LoL players. Hate that game. Oh, I've never played it, but I hate it. Too social. Too trendy.

I think he just outed Radiozo as his alt ^_~

Also, if he looks at my post of it, I quoted Radiozo on the bottom. It was just I posted in a hurry and the pict ended up above rather than below the quote by accident. lols
