It’s a catch 22. If the title of the video was “Why the Atari 5200 is my least favorite system ever” people probably wouldn’t go into it too curious at all. I don’t always like clickbait but in this case it works. MJ makes solid content and my guess is that he respects his audience enough to not mess with them like that. That reputation earns him a lot of leeway in such matters in my view.

I haven't a clue why anyone would be annoyed. If you have content to share with folks, you try to entice them to engage with it. That's marketing 101. It's not "I just made $1800/day working from home" BS, it's simply packaging and presenting legitimate information, like a magazine would do with a cover, a writer would do with a first sentence, a department store would do with a perfume/cologne, or a video game would do with box art.

Keep up the good work, MJ.

I disagree with your title as well. Ignoring the clickbait aspect, as others have droned on about, I just know you weren't disappointed by the Atari 5200. By your own admission, you didn't have the machine as a child. Thus, we know you purchased it as part of your collection. By the time you did that, decades had past and the unabashed failure of the machine was a matter of public record and the stuff of legend. You couldn't have been disappointed, because there is no realistic way you could have expected it to be any good.

Also, not a single drop of gameplay footage? Really?

I disagree. I bought three different 5200s... both models the 4 controller and 2 controller versions. They all suck. They are disappointing.

As for gameplay footage... capturing RF sucks. You have to go through a VCR to upscale it to composite and then upscale that to HD. it looks like a fuzzy mess.

You mean that’s when YOU grew up. Except I don’t think that’s actually happened yet.

Gaming has been ‘grown up’ since the pc was glutted with baseball management sims, submarine games and historical military war games. The idea that gaming had to ‘grow up’ is a fallacy.

Even the NES had games like Nobunaga’s Ambition, Ultima, Golgo 13, and other games for adults.

I didn't get a PC until 1998. What do you want me to do? Create a new set of memories and feelings because i didn't play fucking shitty PC sims in the 80s?

This is my take on shit.

Fallacy..... Talk like a real person for fucks sake.

No, just recognize your personal experience may not constitute the entirety of the medium. Research is available to you; we are on the internet after all.

(Researching my child hood memories for accuracy before i type them up)........ Eat a wagon of dicks.

I'm not some fag who has to go around all day prefacing, retracting and digressing every statement i make as to not cause anyone any sort of rustling. Anyone with half a brain could figure out that my recollections could be different from other peoples. I mean we are all getting old here, these childhood memories are going on 30 years for some of us. So you shut your fucking face, dick head.

Exactly.

It doesn’t even nevessarily take research. Just the basic humility of understanding that the world turned before you got here.
