Saw Panther on Sunday (finally). The plot was pretty predictable, but that's pretty much par for the course with these films. Overall I thought it was a good movie, I really enjoyed it.

BP is a good film worth a theatrical viewing. Game Night was okay...some funny moments, but too many of those were ruined by the trailers. Really need to just stop watching trailers. They put too much of the best stuff in them, ruining those moments during the film.

Go see BP. Rent GN.

good point.

My wife wanted to see it and I said no. It reminded me of What Dreams May Come with all of that shimmery rainbow stuff. I'd be curious to hear what somebody thinks about it if they decide to double the profit on this and buy a couple of tickets.

The book, at least, has absolutely nothing in common with What Dreams May Come. It's about a group of scientists investigating the abandoned Area X, which is a strange patch of the US where all forms of life are mutating in strange (and sometimes monstrous) ways.

I'll get around to see Annihilation likely over the weekend. Didn't want to bother with crowds at the local theater. I have Wednesday off so I plan on using my MoviePass on Black Panther than use it again likely Friday to see Annihilation.

Is everybody a woman in the book? Not that I mind, I was just wondering if they changed it for the film.

They are talking about the visual style, not about the content of the film. So the painterly/oily look that the two films share.

The expedition members aren't named in the book. If I recall correctly, the only one whose gender is ostensibly mentioned is the narrator/biologist (Natalie Portman's character); her husband was lost Area X, which is why she ventures in. I think there was at least one other female character in the group, but it's been a while since I read the book.

Aside from the shimmery barrier surrounding Area X, I'd have to disagree about the two films being visually similar...unless a mutant bear monster with a skull for a face is considered painterly and/or oily.

Watched Black Panther last night. Did not blow me away, and it seems like Disney got the same Double Negative artists as Justice League because the CG for any humans and animals was atrocious.
