METAL JESUS ROCKS!: Friends Help Friends MAME Themselves

The start of a new week is here, and that means METAL MONDAY for all resident retrogamers here on EvAv! Holy gaming virtuoso Metal Jesus is back with another round of old-school arcade goodness, and this time he's got backup. MJ joins bandmate and fellow videogame enthusiast Paul in a quest to bring the timeless treasures of gaming yesteryear to the man-cave of today. That's right, kids! Back in the day, you stood side by side and bumped shoulders while playing co-op--and there was nothing homo-erotic about it. (Unless, of course, you wanted there to be; in which case--game on!)

So to make an unnecessarily long intro less so, all you need to know is that the below video involves MAME, malevolent cabinetry, and a vertigo-inducing round of two-player Raiden. ROCK ON!

My MAME cab was the first of many casualties to be sacrificed upon the marriage altar. God rest ye well, converted Space Duel cabinet (1997-2002).

Mame
suck, draw into the mouth using the lips and tongue; (vulgar) fellate, participate in oral sex. Worst acronym ever.

Remember the first time I used MAME the screen also flipped itself as soon as I tried to jump, shoot and move at the same time (CTRL-ALT-arrow key). Fortunetly supporting computers that kids have been bashing the keyboards of had taught me that particular totally unhelpful windows shortcut before

We actually struggled with the flipped screen for quite a while. The weird thing was that it only happened when the red player fired bombs! So bizarre...

The screen flipping issue is likely a key combination. I've seen lots of Intel video cards that have this "feature" where you press CTRL-ALT-Up Arrow for example, and it inverts the screen. I think, since the arcade stick its just using a keyboard passthrough, and is essentially pressing keystrokes for you, that may be what happened.

So try ctrl-alt-arrow keys on the keyboard itself and see what happens.

Blah, sorry. I didn't read all of Hawkbat's post.
Now I don't see a way to delete my redundant post. Oh well.

No worries--it's good to have it confirmed from multiple sources.

I concur, the rotation and flipping is a common feature in gfx drivers.

Indeed it is. It used to work on the tills at GAME. It was rather useful for confusing Christmas temps / managers.
