METAL JESUS ROCKS!: Kooks of Hazzard

Don't you love how some events are so big that even non-fans get drawn in to them? Take the Super Bowl for instance. Regardless of whether you're among the die-hard football faithful or someone who hasn't played a Madden game since you pirated it on your Commodore 64 20 years ago, you couldn't help but enjoy the sweet, sweet schadenfreude of seeing Tom Brady's ego getting crushed to smithereens by the Big Blue Wrecking Crew last night.

You know what else everyone can enjoy, regardless of being a gamer or not? A trip to visit one of the largest and most complete videogame collections in the country. That's right, the Metal Jesus and Drunken Master Paul head back down South(ern Washington) to hang out with John Hancock and his awesome Room of Doom. And them Seattle boys, they're riding high on the hog thanks to DMP's sweet new ride, the General Bruce Lee.

This time around, John's going to be exhibiting some of the more rare and lesser known items in his collection, including a version of the TurboGrafx-16 most gamers have probably never even heard of. Oh, and lots of early consoles from the 70s which may or may not be accompanied by a disco soundtrack.

So heed the siren calls of squeaking styrofoam, awkward controllers, and wood-grain finishes; they compel you to check out this week's episode of METAL JESUS ROCKS!:

I seriously hope they got to yell out "YEEEEEEEHAAAAAWW!!!" while goosing it over a small hill at least once during this trip.

Drunken Master Paul: It's 128 miles to Longview, we got a full tank of gas, a pack of Alaskan Amber, Dokken on the stereo, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Metal Jesus: Hit it.

You'd be surprised, but we were getting 30 MPG on the freeway. No shit. That's in 6th gear on a flat road...but still!

Typically the car gets 22 I think... Pretty wild for such a heavy, beefy car

It's crazy what they've been able to do with fuel efficiency in recent years (even in high performance models), especially as the integrated computers in today's engines become ever more versatile at adjusted the fuel & O2 mix on the fly depending on conditions. For example, our family car is a Buick Rendezvous, and so long as I'm easy on it while driving (take off slowly from stops and red lights, no flooring it to pass, doing the speed limit, et. al.) I can get over 26mpg in it. That's as good as I used to get in my tiny little '86 Fiero 2M6, although granted I used to drive the bejeezus out of that thing, especially when cruising the strip and doing impromptu drag racing on Friiday nights. Ah, to be 17 again.

I had a 2007 Corvette that got 27mpg(highway). Always shocked everyone when they heard that. That Challenger is a good-looking ride.

Sorry, but I've had the below image stuck in my head ever since I wrote up the post for this week's video, so I just had to get it out of my system.

Ahhh.... much better.

Wow, that's very good. I'm lucky to get 15 mpg highway with my '99 Mustang.

I should start collecting old games, I already have a handful from 30 years of gaming

Atari 2600, two controllers, half a dozen games, still works

NES, same as above

SNES, same as above but more games

N64, think 3 controllers, tons of games

Saturn, TONS of games I got on clearance

Dreamcast, needs repair work, quite a few games

Gamecube, couple games

I was a Nintendo kid growing up, but I admit I loved my Saturn to death, when it was at war with the PS1 the first christmas it came out, I chose a Saturn cause at the time it came with three games (daytona usa, virtual fighter and somethin else) and since it "failed" as a system I got like so many games for it dirt cheap. I got Panzer Dragoon 1 I think but sadly no Saga.
