METAL JESUS ROCKS!: P.S. 1 Love You

As we once again find ourselves on the cusp of a new year, it's an excellent time to engage in some retrospection of days past: lessons learned, memories made, and love lost or lingering.

But if you really want to put the "retro" in retrospection, why not use this opportunity to think back upon some of your fondest gaming memories? To that end, the Metal Jesus is back with another timely trip down memory lane to revisit the legendary PlayStation 1. Join him as he queries some quick reviews of worthy titles which many a PS player may have missed amidst the endless flood of awesome releases for the system.

And as it turns out, the Mayans were right; Armageddon is indeed upon us, although it's not as bad as you might have expected. Grab some last-minute libations and experience the end of the world for yourself in this week's episode of METAL JESUS ROCKS! :

I remember Heart of Darkness first being unveiled around 1994 and blowing everyone's mind at how incredible it looked and sounded. But by the time it made it through development hell and was released in '98 (long after Donkey Kong Country had dropped on the SNES and nearly a year following the original Oddworld game on PC), it was fairly "meh" tech-wise. Still, a pretty good (if not very short) game.

I loved Bushido Blade. Nice to see the series getting some love. Another great video. Thanks, MJ

Bushido Blade is my favorite fighting game actually. I suck at the more popular/faster arcade fighters like Street Fighter and Soul Caliber... but the slow methodical pace of Bushido Blade is just excellent. They need to reboot the series with modern graphics.

This will need to come from somebody else unfortunately... I'm all in on Apple devices at this point.

How much use do you get out of your iCade? I ask cause ThinkGeek has a sale on the iCade Jr. for iPhone 4/4S (I dont own an iPad), and it's like $10 currently.

Dude! That is a crazy cheap price on the mini-cab thing. Even if it's not practical in the slightest, I don't even have to think about grabbing one of those. ORDERED!

Thanks for the heads up!

lol, you're welcome. I dunno when the sale ends but it's 80% off. But do keep in mind for anyone interested their cheapest shipping is like $6 so grand total it's almost $16.

And it's only compatible for the 4th generation iDevices (iphone 4, 4S, and 4th ipod). They do say it'll work with an iphone 5 if you don't completely attach the top part of the cabinet and leave it partially open (since the 5 is a bigger form factor than the 4). And it requires 2 AA batteries (not sure of the battery lifespan).

Oh before I forget, any word on when the images for reviews is going up? Last I checked Phil said he was in the process of restoring from backups. I've been dying to do iOS game reviews but since I dont have a local copy of the iconic evil eye images I've been waiting :P

There are a surprisingly high amount of iCade supported games out there...and those that do, play very well. For instance, the Vectrex app is awesome with it. Same goes for platforming games like Mikey Shorts. Lots of shmups support it as well... I would guess there are several hundred games that have iCade support.

I loved that Ghost in the Shell game when I was a kid. Cousin of mine had it, and I would play the hell out of it whenever I was over. I did happen to snag a copy of my own few years back, still factory sealed.

Apocalypse is the greatest non-official sequel to Smash TV. I wish you mentioned the cut-scenes, though, as they were really cool and they blew my mind away when I was younger. Also, I'm really glad you're enjoying Turbo Racing, one of the best arcade racers ever created.

I don't know if Wild9 is a popular game or not here in the States but I LOVED that game back in my homeland.
