METAL JESUS ROCKS!: Dude, Where's My Cart? - Part Deux

When last we left our intrepid retro rockers, Metal Jesus and Drunken Master Paul were exploring the seamy gaming underbelly of Longview, Washington in their quest to discover a truly epic videogame dungeon. Having traversed the great Northwestern wilderness and sampled the local merchants and ale, the time for srs bsns is now afoot.

What hidden treasures will be unearthed? Which legendary gaming artifacts shall be named? And how will the Internet respond to what is quite possibly the worst Roscoe P. Coltrane impersonation to which it has ever been subjected? Lead on, metal adventurers--your quest awaits in this week's episode of METAL JESUS ROCKS!:

Keep a drool napkin handy; this guy's collection is simply staggering. And it causes me no small amount of pain to know that I have either owned or had cheap access to so many of the games which now run hundreds of dollars among collectors. CURSE YOU YARD SALES AND EB TRADE-IN CREDIT!!!

Paintballs and used video games go hand in hand.

Video... too long.. too much to comment on!!! I would tear his gaming room down into a big piles of boxes and swim through that shit like scrooge McDuck. My first experience with a game boy ever was at the nintendo world championships in 89 (I think, damn I"m old). My buddy even scored 3rd place where they sat you up on the giant throne and gave out the gold 3-in-1 tourney cartridges. Now if I was only still in touch with him.... who knows where that cart is now. lol

Ok last thing before I stop gushing. @ 12:55 into the video I can see that mini-cabinet of Pac-Man chilling over there. It was my first digital game ever and I can spot those things a mile away!

I know, right?

The thing to know about John's collection is that he started seriously collecting in the 90s. While most of us were trading this stuff in for new games or donating it to Goodwill, he was waiting in the wings to snag it up.

He told me 99% of the games you see on the walls, he paid $3 for.

Also, let me say that standing in that Room of Doom, was surreal...to say the least! I have been in retro gaming stores that are stocked to the roof with rare games...but never with so many in perfect condition and complete in their boxes with manuals. It truly was EPIC!

Mmhmmm I can only imagine how that room "smelled".... decades of "new plastic" slowly aging. You could catch a buzz off the fumes alone.

Yep, I was going for a Dukes of Hazard / Hee Haw theme...and if you listen closely at the end of the video, you can hear my wife laughing at me while I recorded it. So, so bad!

Oh yeah, and I was recently informed on NintendoAge.com, that the price of that rare N64 game Clayfighters 63 1/3 is not $80... oh no.

More like $650, according to a recent ebay sale. Crikey!

Sakes alive... $650??? I played that game (via emulation), and it really was pretty terrible. Why the high asking price? Usually, scarcity alone doesn't boost a game that saw a fairly wide release to that range. Is there some desirability factor or other weird trivia about that title I'm missing?

There are actually two versions of the game, and it is the Sculptor's Cut version that is so damn rare and hard to find. The reason being: it was a Blockbuster rental only, which explains why the box and manual would be so hard to find! I'm sure most Blockbuster's just trashed those things. Also the Sculptor's Cut version is slightly different than the normal version, which different playable characters.

This game is only expensive because of game collectors want to complete their system collections. Otherwise, nobody would give two shits about this game (or Stadium Events for that matter!)

This was interesting and fun to watch, but seeing those games is hard. I have a difficult time understanding how I fell in love with this hobby with those old games.

Awesome video!

Now MJ needs to do a tv show like this. Kinda like Antiques Road Show / Storage Wars / American Pickers meets video games. Travel the country, look at huge collections people have, etc

I'd pay to watch that. Make it happen dude!

Drunken Master Paul would love to make it onto TV...again. He was already on Ace of Cakes for 2 years... and he's a natural.

Me? Sure, as long as somebody is willing to pay me to talk, play and find games...Hell, I'm in!

Speaking of which, definitely check out the Game Chasers. They do a very good show similar to American Pickers, but it's all 100% games. Awesome!

Ok, I've been watching all their stuff for like three hours now, epic show. The production quality is pretty damn awesome once you get into it.

And you toooootally didn't mention you met them at PAX this year :P I did a double take while watching their Pax Episode 1.

Imagine the possibilities, MJ + Paul meets Game Chasers collab. It would be like dividing the internet by 0 as nyan can poops a double rainbow with a forecast of chocolate rain.

Yep, I got to hang out with Billy & Jay during PAX Prime this year. I drove them around to Seattle retro gaming shops, took them to a flea market, we saw the sites, and they are very genuine dudes. We had a good time, and I suspect we will meet up again at next years PAX as well. I'm pretty sure we could walk away with a pretty funny MJR or Game Chasers episode!

This video makes me regret trading in the handful of NES and SNES games I had
