Ubisoft Interested in Acquiring THQ IPs

With THQ's demise looking inevitable, other publishers are showing interest in acquiring the IP rights to some of their games. Take Ubisoft for instance:

Quote:
Guillemot said Ubisoft is open for discussions on acquiring some of THQ’s IPs, but he declined to say which franchises the firm was most interested in acquiring.

“They have good things,” he said. “We are always interested in good brands. For sure, it’s something we can consider, but I can’t tell you more.”

There is likely to be a quiet bidding war for Relic and Volition. Both are solid studios with good track records and quality IP (that they're in reasonably cheap places to operate doesn't hurt either). Vigil is a bigger question mark, since it's probably losing a lot of money still and Darksiders hasn't sold to expectations. THQ's probably going to be forced into selling one of it's big studios to stay afloat in the short term, but unless they can pull off a miracle they're basically dead at this point.

(Full disclosure, I worked on a social game for them a few years ago and the sheer level of WTF coming from them was astounding. I can't believe they're still in business, frankly.)

Please don't let Ubi, EA, or Acti have any of the good ones. I'd rather see them go to Take 2 or Valve.

Personally, anything that resulting in another quality title in the Descent Freespace series would be okay with me.

Darksiders II was bad enough on the carved up DLC, it really doesn't need Ubisoft getting hold of it. I hope whoever's decision that drawing game was isn't employed in a highly paid decision because that along seemed to be the massive backstab for triple damage that really put THQ on the edge.

The ides of THQ were told with that car accident... since then it's been nothing but bad luck.

Saints Row is likely one IP. It's a viable GTA competitor that has carved out its own niche.

I don't understand this. If they couldn't do anything for THQ, why someone else want them? These days, for one of the big publishers to put out a game, it has to have a near guarantee of success (which is why we keep seeing all these sequels). I can't think of one THQ IP that comes anywhere close to the name recognition of one of the blockbusters (ie, the Mass Effect/Call of Duty/Halo crowd). The only reason I can think of is so they an take features or licenses from some of the games and absorb them into their own creations.

Or maybe other publishers are more interested in the IPs from licenses, like WWE or Warhammer? That would make more sense.

Let Relic do DOW III. I don't think any of the DOW games tanked in sales, and personally I think Relic has shown more respect to the 40K franchise than GW has.
