South Park: The Stick of Truth Reviews

The South Park reviews have begun to hit!

IGN gave it a 9.0

Escapist gave it a 4/5

Sounds like good news for those of us who were waiting out reviews!

I decided to buy it with the GMG coupon I got in my email last night. Played it for about 10 after it got released. It's awesome how close they got the look to the show.

I could never understand the appeal of South Park. Always seemed like a dumber more annoying version of Beavis and Butthead, if that's even possible. I actually liked B&B to some extent too.

A few more:

USgamer - 5/5

Quote:
The Stick of Truth is well worth your time and money, then -- and while some may balk at its relatively short length compared to some RPGs, I would question whether the game would have actually been any more fun had it been twice or three times the length. I suspect not; as it stands, it's an enjoyable, well-paced, self-consciously silly and unashamedly offensive romp through Matt Stone and Trey Parker's respective imaginations -- and, without a doubt, one of the best uses of a TV or movie license I've ever seen in gaming.
PC Gamer - 90/100

Quote:
There are better RPGs out there, but no oneís buying The Stick of Truth just for that. Youíll probably buy it because you like, or at least are familiar with, South Park, and as an extension of that series itís pretty much perfect. That itís a decent game underneath it all too is a pleasant bonus. Above all, itís just a wonderful piece of entertainment. Itís surprising, surreal, packed with jokes, and rarely frustrating. I didnít get bored once across the 17 hours it took me to finish the story and most of the sidequests, and it kept me laughing consistently until the credits. If that isnít worth 90%, I donít know what is.
Game Informer - 8.5/10

Quote:
I canít think of a better way to bring this franchise to gaming consoles. The RPG format allows for a ton of funny items and sidequests, the objectives are unlike anything else in the genre, everything moves along at a solid pace, and the overall feel is distinctly South Park. Itís one of the most faithful adaptations of a license Iíve seen, and it ranks among the best comedic games ever released.
GameSpot - 7/10

Quote:
But The Stick of Truth cannot be separated from its license, and it's in its vulgar attitude that it finds redemption. On your Facebook wall, which functions as your in-game menu system, Priest Maxi writes: "I'm glad you found Christ, my son. Be ever vigilant, for He may be found in the unlikeliest of places in the time of need. I found Him in my chimney once." South Park: The Stick of Truth is not the second coming of role-playing games, so if you come seeking Jesus, you'll be disappointed by the veritable second-rate televangelist you find in His place. But it's as funny as the merry tune of Stratford, and more enjoyable than Butters' favorite game, Hello Kitty: Island Adventure.

I dunnoÖ these are telling reviews too.

The Christian Post gave it a 1/10 calling it "an obamanation of video games"
The Jewish Daily Forward gave it a .5/10 saying "it's not even kosher"
and Hawkeye from Mash was overheard saying "Stick of Truth MY ASS!"

Will grab this game at lunch!

Loving it. Very high quality in terms of matching the show. Happy to learn the GMG code also got me the Steam pre-order DLC.

Wha...!?! B&B was a horrid show and absolutely nothing on Earth could possibly be dumber.

South Park talks/jokes about actual current issues you could find on CNN. Well atleast this was the case 10 years ago when I last watched the show. Maybe its dumbed down.

South Parks premise was satire on common culture. B&B was satire of 2 losers that like hard rock.

May pick this up.

It plays very well on PC. Some of the gameplay reminds me of Witcher 1 sword combat and even Super Mario RPG battles. i.e.- click when you see a flash for extra damage

This game should run on a wide variety on PCs, so if you have a laptop from 3-4 years ago, it should run it just fine.

Weird ... the kotaku review says that it's a great game, but so buggy right now it isn't worth playing in its current state.

It's Obsidian. Comes with the territory.

I've been playing it for ages on PC and I haven't had a single CTD or seen any bugs. That doesn't mean there aren't any, but I've played for 9 hours so far according to Steam.

It definitely feels like a long a series of South Park episodes. I'm at the climax of the second "episode" and I'm thinking that the next one will be the last. There are still a ton of sidequests, but this is looking to be about a 15 hour game. Of course, I could be completely wrong and there is a whole other "episode" after the next one or a massive climax level that takes a lot of time. That's a very rough estimate. Still, if I get 15-20 hours of fun out of it, I'll consider the money well spent. I'm just getting spoiled by Steam, so I don't usually drop $60 on a game unless it is something like Fallout or Skyrim. . . something I COULD play for 50+ hours without exhausting the content.

I've only played like 2 hours, but I've yet to see a bug. I'm not sure what people are talking about in that regard.

My character flickered twice. I chalked it up to a driver issue. The flicker lasted two seconds each time. Hardly an issue.

Played it last night, great game. Have not seen one bug yet on the PC version.

Kotaku is the National Enquirer of gaming journalism, so I tend to automatically reverse anything they say in real time when I read it.

South Park usually cracks me up & the game is doing a fine job of it so far.

I am not a huge fan of Beavis & Butthead, but would like to say that I enjoy it when they watch videos. The rest I can do without. If the could just play vids & comment on em - I'd spend more time there.

Knowing 2k I need to wait to see what the DLC looks like and if holding off until a game of the year edition is worth it.
