METAL JESUS ROCKS!: All Time Ten

People like lists; that's just an undeniable fact. As a means of clearly communicating a hierarchical set of data, lists are nothing less than lovely. But what makes a list great is that which it... well... lists.

By that standard, this week's METAL JESUS ROCKS! is the stuff of greatness. Because not only do we have linearly arranged information presented in an efficient and entertaining format, but the points being conveyed are none other than the Metal Jesus' own personal Top 10 Games of All Time. Sure it's a subjective list; but it's a list built around the subjectivity of someone you love and trust, and who loves you. Besides, what better way to celebrate the Cadmium Cristos recently surpassing 100,000 subscribers than getting a glimpse into the mind behind the metal?

Watch the video below, then reply back sharing how MJ's lifetime faves compare to your own:

'grats on reaching 100k to a good friend and great YouTuber. Here's looking forward to seeing you hit your first million, dude.

Don't know if I can do my top 10 as a spur-of-the-moment thing, but here's a quick stab at it:
  • Star Control II (PC DOS)
  • Chrono Trigger (SNES)
  • Day of the Tentacle (PC DOS)
  • Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)
  • Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (Xbox)
  • Space Rogue (C64)
  • Hero's Quest: So You Want To Be A Hero? (PC DOS)
  • Wasteland (C64)
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox)
  • Contra: Hard Corp (Genesis)
  • One Must Fall: 2097 (PC DOS)
Yeah.... that's tough. There 20 other games swirling around in my head that I'd want to put down as well. But on a self-imposed 2-minute limit, this is what I came up with. (And for some reason, I just noticed it doesn't include any 360/PS3 games... GAH--so many great games to choose from!!)

At any rate: what an awesome lifetime of gaming I've enjoyed so far.

I really screwed up leaving Fallout 1 off this list. DOH! Completely spaced me.

Also... I forgot the C64 that I love so much. Maybe cuz I don't own many physical copies...but Lords of Conquest, Bruce Lee, Great Gianna Sisters, and many more!

...doing these lists are hard!

Older ones yes.

The order really doesn't matter as I picked games from my collection most people can relate to. (minus top shop because you plebes have yet to experience the glory, solar jetman was just a guilty pleasure etc..)

If you want to get really technical some of those games on that list you'd consider "console" titles I'm actually referring to the arcade versions of, because I was there for those glorious times.

Truer words have never been spoken by ElektroDragon. I will give it a try, with one allowance -- that I can include series as well as games. I am partial to tech (technical accomplishments) over nostalgia, so early favorites from the Atari/N.E.S. and 16-bit eras don't have a chance...
  • Tekken (series)
  • Street Fighter (series) -- some straight choices so far, stay with me...
  • Quake (series) -- brought amazing 3d game technology to the masses. Audio tracks and sound effects from NIN? Sign me up. Invented BROWN. :-)
  • Rez -- a pure, unique, and IMO perfect video game that mocks any "Are games art?" debate -- a visual and aural masterpiece that almost single-handedly crafted a new genre, "synaesthesia" games. An emotional, abstract trip that tells its "story" via abstract impressionistic visuals.
  • Shadow of the Colossus, due to an aspect of the late late part of the game that really had an effect on me.
  • Halo (series) -- can't ignore the LAN-type fun I had with this series with friends
  • Age of Empires 2 (w/ the expansions, of course) -- an RTS that let you crank up the 2d resolution to see insane amounts of the world, when later RTS games from Blizzard still only gave you 2/3 of the screen after UI, and forced you into a close viewing frustum! 200 population limit?! 8 players LAN?! That's 1600 units battling across the same floor of my college dorm! The stuff of legend...
  • Left 4 Dead (series) -- I'll write nothing on this one, or I'll be writing for hours. Plus, I've said it all before around here.
  • Grand Theft Auto 3+ -- for technical achievement/the psychology study/emergent gameplay exercise that is Free Mode.
  • Resident Evil 4
My lord (FSM?), just thinking about those games has me feeling so good deep down, heh.

Nice. It's probably a travesty that Ninja Gaiden didn't make my cut. I spent like half a year where all I did in the morning before school was play Ninja Gaiden and listen to The Beach Boys (not at the same time, mind you. I knew good games before I knew good music).

The best thing I've played all year is The Gods are Watching, and that's not saying much.

Spent a whole summer (summer school) drawing Zelda-2-inspired monsters/etc. in a notebook instead of paying attention.

Never beat that last castle.

And Punch-Out really was so amazing, particularly given the hardware. The SNES Super Punch-Out is also the bee's knees. If you can judge the game without considering that fact that we already know the bosses/their attacks/etc. from having to memorize them (in other words, that there are no surprises left, the been-there-done-that lack of excitement), there prob. isn't a better (subjective, yep) boxing game yet...

The virtua boy boxing game has been the only real contender since imo.

Call me a Space Cadet or whatever because I've forgotten more games that I loved than I can remember. My list would only serve as to what I can remember. Oh well, here goes....

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 (PC)
Mario 64 (N64)
Final Fantasy VII (PS)
Street Rods (PC)
Star Control II (PC)
Fallout (PC)
Mortal Kombat II (GENESIS, bitches!)
Super Mario Bros. (NES)
Civilization V, Gods and Kings (PC)
Unreal (PC)
Falcon 4.0 (PC)
Stunt Track Racer (PC)
Vampire: The Masquerade

Shit, I'm going over ten, aren't I?

The correct list, because it is mine. No series because it is cheating:

1 World of Warcraft
2 Panzer Dragoon Saga
3 Final Fantasy VII
4 Half Life 2
5 Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
6 Knights of the Old Republic
7 Grand Theft Auto III
8 Capcom vs SNK 2
9 Starcraft
10 Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

There, I admit it. World of Warcraft is my favorite game of all time. Having quit last year, I may be just catching up now on days spent in the real world.
