Really? It was a pretty big deal on the Wii and has a 92 Metascore (9.0 user score). The successor almost got me to buy a Wii U (user score of 8.9 from 1,650 votes), but the character design and somewhat grindy-looking combat put me off. The open-world stuff has always looked amazing, though.

I put a few hours in yesterday; I like it well enough so far. Hadn't touched the last two Xenoblade games--or even a Xeno game since Xenogears--so just kinda jumping in. Only gotten a small taste of the big open-world stuff so far, just now reached a point where I can actually do some real side-quests and explore a bit.

Only complaint so far is that it feels like 80% of my first 4 hours were cutscenes. Looking forward to getting to a point where all the game systems are open and I'm not just jumping from one tutorial to the next character establishing scene back to another tutorial.

I heard it opens up completely once you clear through some early cutscenes tutorials.

Xenoblade Chronicles X was my favorite game on the Wii U. The combat was deep as hell, and the exploration was nuts. It also had some of the deepest character progression I've ever seen in an RPG between your mechs levels, your mechs gear, your skills, your attributes, your gear, etc. It's a JRPG you could really nerd out to. I put hundreds of hours into it.
