Here We Go Again: Anonymous Not Finished With Sony

Earlier in the week, Sony and George Hotz agreed to settle the case outside of court, thereby ending the "Geohot" fiasco once and for all.

Or, not.

Anonymous, who earlier in the month put both Sony and their customers through a week of headaches as they targeted the Playstation Network, Sony employees and even the lawyers and the judge involved in the court case, still apparently have a bone to pick with Sony.

Quote:
In the eyes of the law, this case is over. We disagree. We believe Sony's actions in this case are unjust. We do not agree with Sony forcing social media sites like Youtube to hand over the IP addresses of people who viewed GeoHots videos. We view this as a severe violation of privacy rights. We disagree with Sony forcefully gathering personal information from other companies like PayPal. We find it unacceptable that Sony is even permitted to request this information in the first place. These acts are completely disrespectful and unforgivable.

This is not about one man's lopsided battle against a huge corporation. The actions of Sony have far-reaching implications for every person who has purchased and therefore owns a piece of equipment, regardless of the manufacturer.

The current solution will only embolden other greedy corporations to employ similar unfair tactics, so it is necessary to continue our protest to make our voices heard. We invite you to do the same. Operation Sony, or OpSony for short, is simply the opening shot.

Where the judicial system has failed, Anonymous will persevere, by standing up for the rights of everyone, not just those who dared to challenge these corporations. Geohots' belief was in the freedom of information dissemination. We will stand with him.

On April 16th, we will take the protests against Sony to the streets. We encourage anyone who is able to come to a nearby Sony Store to support the cause, even if you are not usually involved with Anonymous. This is not just about Anonymous - this is about your rights.

If you wish to attend, be sure to check on your local laws and regulations regarding hiding your face during protests and, if allowed, cover your face, whether it is the usual Guy Fawkes masks or some other form of facial covering. Of course you can always wear a mask, even if it's prohibited by law - but be aware that this can pose a serious legal risk. You should also be aware of potential 'saboteurs', whether from police forces / corporate security, or Sony itself.
The group is also calling for boycotts of Sony products, asking people to return recently purchased Sony products for a refund. They also claim the "biggest attack" is yet to come. This is obviously serious business, because they even have a Facebook page for it!

How can people trust someone without a face? If they were really dedicated to any cause they would put their own ass on the line. Anon fail.

It's cause and effect isn't it. Annon is mad at Sony. However, Sony can only request info, it's up to the courts to grant them that info. But the courts are upholding the law. The law is made by local and federal governments. Governments are made up of officials who are elected by the population. Annon is a member of the pop, so is to blame. Hence, they should cyber attack themselves ... in the ass

It's a Guy Fawkes mask. Anonymous started wearing it when they were physically protesting Scientology and it's essentially become one of their logos.

While I don't agree with violent methods or with cyber attacks, I have to say that I can't disagree with Anonymous on principle. I mean, obtaining the personal information of innocents who might have just WATCHED Geohot on YouTube? That's just ridiculous. No corporation should have that much power. Hell, no government should have that much power!

This fiasco would make a great movie. I'd go see it.

What is wrong with all of you? What Sony did is wrong and the justice system is broken to allow it.

Governments are made up of people who are elected because they can raise money from the lobbies they represent in order to do a media blitz to win over the public. Most laws are written by lobbyists trying to help the corporations they represent.

Ever heard of regulatory capture?
There are countless examples in like every regulatory agency in the US. Look up rBGH for starters.

The system is broken in so many ways and whistle blower laws are so weak that it seems like anonymity is sometimes needed to challenge corporations.

I'm not saying I agree with all of anonymous' methods or even that I'm a fan of them. On this issue though they are more right than wrong.

I sold my ps3 for two reasons. 1.) Gt5 sucked 2.) Because of Sony's bullshit.

I hope they keep messing them up. Does Sony think they're higher than the law?
Please open flood gates
