CD Projekt Wants to Bring The Witcher to Other Media
CD Projekt's managing director Adam Badowski has revealed that the company wishes to bring The Witcher to other forms of media other than just games.
Quote:
"We want to develop The Witcher's universe in other media, not only video games. We have Mr. Sapkowsk's blessing and what we create is in line with his vision of the world, no matter how the saga will evolve.
"We want The Witcher's universe to be a part of pop-culture like Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings, and for our fanbase to expand rapidly. We just have to carefully and diligently do our thing."
|
From Eurogamer
The rest of the article discusses Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski's thoughts on the games.

I think this is a great idea, a badass warrior in a fantasy world. For sure.
Start with a graphic novel

Graphic Novels would be a good start and you could keep the themes mature.

Granted hollywood has gotten better over the years of not fucking up books too much when translating them to the screen, but lets not get our hopes up too much.

After playing Witcher 2 IDK why people love it so much. Hopefully future titles will be longer and have more than 9 types of enemies to kill, likeable characters and a narrator that does not make me want to kill everybody around me. Also actual combat not just spamming your def spell or RUNNING away.

Most fights I don't run. I dodge and use spells, traps, and weapons. You're not a bullet sponge. The narrator is forgiveable for an awesome game. Plus tits, good voice acting and beautiful characters and world. Its a win in my book.

And only two of his books have been translated to English, so it's no surprise that many people only know of The Witcher because of the games.

I would love to see this happen.
-Id love to see a witcher pen and paper RPG come out sometime. I think the world is perfect for players to play in.
-Id LOVE to see a witcher movie, but Id want it to be all CGI and done like the trailers and promo movies they made for the witcher 2. They displayed some amazing movie making abilities easily on par or better than blizzards cinematic team.
-Witcher graphic novels in teh vien on the graphic novels in the game would also be very welcome.

If they do make a movie, there is zero reason to get hollywood invovled. The demonstrated a number of times now that they can create great movies.
Movie making is cheap enough now that they could get away with a great looking film, and the start off the beggining of polish hollywood if they kept production on their own turf. God knows the movie industry needs the competition. Plus given the way their studio seems to operate, it would be a great lead for the rest of the VFX world which is in admittedly very very very sad shape these days despite the great work being produced.
