All Things D is reporting that News Corp. is close to completing the sale of IGN to J2 Global's Ziff Davis.
According to sources close to the situation, News Corp. has almost completed the sale of its IGN gaming unit to Ziff Davis, which is now owned by J2 Global.
The price the business cloud provider — with online services such as eFax, Onebox and eVoice — paid for the gaming unit is unclear, but News Corp. bought IGN for $650 million in cash in late 2005. This transaction is considerably lower, sources said.
IGN operates a number of sites, including IGN itself, AskMen.com and Gamestats.com. Ziff Davis, which J2 bought last year for $167 million, has properties such as PCMag.com, Geek.com, ComputerShopper and ExtremeTech.
It has been on the market over the last six months, after an attempt to spin if off failed and its head, Roy Bahat, left the company.
Choose your government: the majority ruling the minority, the minority ruling the majority, or everyone ruling themselves long as they do not initiate force, fraud, or theft against one another.
Whether you like it or not, IGN is a pretty big brand in games "journalism" (I use the word with some amount of irony). They are the guys that score some of the big interviews and although their editorials are generally total garbage, their reviews have gotten better over the years.
Add to that a distinct effort to push their better writers forward as the public faces of the company, and you come away with a much more personal IGN. Ive grown very attached to some of those guys. Greg Miller may be a total dork, but he seems like the kind of dork you could drink with.
I like IGN, and I hope whatever entity purchases them keeps the good writers and content creators.
Also:Brian Altano is a funny mother fucker.
A hit with the ladies since the 1980's.
IGN has been pretty bad for a long time now or since around the time they started to push the sub service. I actually used a loophole a while back to sign up for a Prime membership free and got into a handful of betas. They're Dorito marketing level of competence.

Fuck, i joined this site 8 years ago.
I've been on this site for... probably 12 years now? Maybe even longer! I originally came for the Flamethrower features around the time Ion Storm was imploding and just never left, even though I wanted to when they brought the new forums online. That was a dark day...
