Eternal Darkness Co-Writer Arrested for Child Porn [Updated]
Kenneth McCulloch, the co-writer of Eternal Darkness, has been arrested for child porn. He was currently working at Precursor Games on Shadow of the Eternals - a project that has already been experiencing a lot of trouble.
Quote:
Kenneth McCulloch, a developer at Precursor Games—the developers who want to create a sequel to Eternal Darkness—is now facing child pornography charges according to Bullet News Niagara and the Niagara Regional Police Service.
McCulloch is being charged with "one count each of possession of child pornography, making child pornography available and accessing child pornography," to be specific.

Update: A Precursor Games representative issued the following statement to GameSpot on the matter.
Quote:
“We are deeply upset by this," reads a line from the statement. "Having just learned of these disturbing charges today and based on the serious nature of them, Kenneth McCulloch is no longer affiliated in any way with Precursor Games.”

If it's true I wish he'd be tortured. Like slow cuts torture.

I know the kneejerk reaction is to want to go all Ramsay Snow on him, but we have to remember that he is a human being too. There is probably some really bad trauma or dysfunction that got him to the state to where he would do that type of thing.
I hope he gets help, as opposed to being flayed alive. It is a really sad situation no matter what.

This is all kinda vague, I'd like to know more about what he actually did before I crucify him. Canadian law includes all purely fictional depictions of 'persons or characters under the age of 18 engaging in sexual activity' as child pornography, so it could be written or drawn materials. Not to say a guy scribbling sexual fan-fics about Dora the Explorer or whatever is not creepy, but there are a very wide spectrum of possibilities that could lead to McCulloch's charges.
Pretty much anyone who's ever torrented erotic manga could fit under that umbrella, for example, regardless of whether or not whatever included 'questionable materials' in an overall package were the intent for downloading, or whether or not the 'distribution' aspect of seeding was even considered.
If he's actually abusing or aiding in the abuse of children though, then they definitely should take him outside with the book and beat him with it.

The general public are unfortunately not as level headed as yourself. They will go full retard "let the dangum sucker hang hmmdurrrrr" before knowing any of the facts.

I agree we need to know more before coming to any conclusions. Did he knowingly and intentionally retrieve and distribute this material (or worse, participate in its production)? Or was it a case where he visited an adult website and his browser loaded a thumbnail image of a model who was 17 years and 11 months old and looked like she was 25?
Unfortunately simply being accused of a crime like this is enough to pretty much mess up your life forever.

Yes, people who way overboard on this without information. On USA at least, several people (scanlators, irc) have been thrown into jail, fined and branded sexual offenders for importing ecchi or hentai manga. Wouldn't surprise me if that happened on Canada too.

I know it's happened in Canada in the past. There have been cases reported in The Comics Journal over the years.

They can't charge without evidence, and I'm guessing he wasn't sitting in his basement with a lithograph making copies to distribute to his friends via snail-mail.
Again, sentencing comes AFTER a trial wherein he is found guilty/innocent. Throw the book at him then. But ask yourself how many people you know that have been charged with the litany of charges he has that are actually innocent. Child porn is a filth, and an abomination on this planet. Those found in possession, or distributing, or making it should be put into a rocket and launched into the sun.

Actually, it's guilty until proven guilty. They don't put innocent people in jail, yet until someone is proven not guilty (you don't have to prove innocence, just doubt of guilt), they are in jail.
I don't know why we still try to fool ourselves that it has ever been innocent until proven guilty. It can't work that way, otherwise you would never be able to arrest anyone.

You don't understand the concept of 'innocent until proven guilty' then.
Just because you've been arrested for something doesn't mean you've commited a crime.
