Seeing as I love Planet Hulk I don't want to look a gift horse (hulk) in the mouth, but the catalyst for Planet Hulk never occurred in the marvel film universe....right?

No, but Bruce did disappear after Age of Ultron, so I guess it is possible they are going to say that he sent himself to another world to avoid the destruction that was caused in Age of Ultron.

Yeah. That's what I figured.

They're definitely giving it the GotG flavor....hopefully it works.

It honestly looks kinda campy and stupid, but you know what? I don't care. It will be mindless popcorn fun. Bring it on!

Loved it. Hope they schedule it properly; this summer and holiday season is pretty saturated.

Is the evil lady Hel? Or maybe it's some sort of really strong cosmic force. The art direction with the psychedelic effect around the words definitely had a strong Guardians of the Galaxy vibe so this may very well be how they tie in GotG and the Avengers for the Infinity Gauntlet.

The main reason why I'm concerned with this tone is the simple fact that the basis of this story featured Thor attempting to end the cycle of death and rebirth of Asgard. It ends with Thor and the rest of the Asgardians seemingly dying. In the comics, it's the reason why Thor wasn't involved in Civil War.

I'm sure the film's story will be dramatically different (and by merging it with Planet Hulk, it already is), but it seems a little too lighthearted based on this one trailer.

If the movie can maintain the craziness of that trailer it will be the best thing Marvel Studios has done. Really surprised after the boring Dark World sequel. I still haven't bothered to watch Avengers Civil War (hated that Ultron one), Spiderman Homecoming doesn't do anything for me, but that trailer looks like a movie I want to see.

James Gunn and GoTG is pretty much influencing Marvel's MCU direction: Everyone is copying him and his style.

Which is a shame, because I really did not like Guardians of the Galaxy. I still think Iron Man is the best of the MCU. It had just the right amount of comedy and tragedy. The newer films seem too concerned about the humor.

GoTG is influencing stuff over on the DC side as well.

I was kinda surprised at the tone of this trailer, but I guess they tried to do dark and serious for Thor The Dark World and it didn't really work for them. So it makes sense that they're trying to change it up a little. I could probably do without the flying 70's sci fi & disco font, but it looks fun

I couldn't stand the first Thor.
"Hi I'm Thor, I don't understand your world and it's charming."
"Hi I'm female lead and now we're in love."
Enter Robot and roll credits.

Making Thor the comic relief is the only way I see him being likable on screen. It's kind of hard to sell Christians a god character anyways.

That they haven't cashed in on the huge potential and appetite for Hulk is nuts. He's been a standout in every scene he's been in. If they can keep this one kind of wacky and fun with the rest of it maybe being a backwards 300 remake, then ok, cool, I'm in.

Marvel Studios is still a little gun shy after having two Hulk movies bomb in a row. The Edward Norton version isn't totally terrible (though the Abomination character model blows big frothy chunks, he should have looked like the Comics version), but neither the terrible Ang Lee version or the Edward Norton version made any money at all.

They just don't want to risk their current $150 million budget schedule on a character with such a bad track record. I'm sure if this movie does well, you will see Hulk finally get his solo movie, but it will be solo only as far as Hulk will be the headliner and it will still have Doctor Strange or Thor or Captain America or one of their other big characters in the film. I think the buddy-comedy thing works good for Hulk so they don't have to have the CGI Hulk trying to belt out more lines than "Puny God".

Wow, we got something like this here now, too?

Anyway: After seeing the trailer, I fist checked if it was released on April 1st. It had that "Team Thor" vibe that went over so well in the shorts, but its second part didn't fit the first at all, in my opinion. Speaking of which: I find it funny that people see the second film as dark and gloomy. Certainly, it had Frigga's death and all, but the scenes in London were mostly lighthearted, and we laughed out loud when Thor hung his hammer on the coatrack. Also, the showdown is almost pure slapstick.
