Devil May Cry 5 has Microtransactions
Sep 23, 2018 - 6:03 AM - by Emabulator

Devil May Cry 5 has microtransactions. Eurogamer has the story.

Devil May Cry 5 will allow players to spend real money to upgrade their characters.

The news came via a build of the game being shown at Tokyo Game Show, in which orbs could be bought at Divinity Statues in-game to hurry up progression - a system that had previously appeared in Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, though given the backlash that similar systems have faced it's still a surprise to see it return.

Gamespot spoke to Devil May Cry 5 director Hideaki Itsuno about the inclusion of microtransactions in the game. "With giving people the ability to purchase Red Orbs, it's something we want to give people as an option," he said. "If they want to save time and just want to get all the stuff at once, those people can do that. But on the other hand I don't feel you have to get all the moves. You should be able to play it the way you want to play it."

Sep 22, 2018 - 11:03 AM - by Emabulator

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in early 2019. PCGamesN has the story.

Explosive defense attorney Phoenix Wright will debut on PC next spring. Capcom will publish a new version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, which includes the first three games in the franchise, in early 2019.

The trilogy, which first appeared in 2001 on Game Boy Advance but has reappeared on mobile devices and Nintendo 3DS, includes Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Phonex Wright: Ace Attorney – Justice for All, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Trials and Tribulations. The games are ‘courtroom adventures,’ in which Phoenix Wright must exonerate his clients from false accusations. As Wright, you have to deal with lying witnesses and conflicting information, working to solve cases by asking smart questions and evaluating evidence.

Capcom announced the new version of the trilogy today at the Tokyo Games Show. Pricing information was not available, but Capcom says the PC version will be available on Steam.

Call of Cthulhu - Gameplay Trailer #2
Sep 22, 2018 - 8:48 AM - by Emabulator

Walk the path of madness in Call of Cthulhu’s latest gameplay trailer

Call of Cthulhu, the official videogame adaptation of Chaosium’s tabletop RPG, will release October 30 on PlayStation 4, XBOX One and PC. Today, we invite players to tread further down the path of madness in this new Gameplay Trailer, as the Darkwater investigation begins to spiral out of control in the midst of unsettling conspiracies, bizarre cults and even the Old Ones themselves.

In Private Investigator Edward Pierce's quest to unveil the truth, players will need to rely on a variety of upgradeable Skills to escape the clutches of madness and death. The Spot Hidden and Investigation skill paths let players uncover more clues and draw more meaningful conclusions, unlocking more topics to question in dialogues. Convincing the distrustful locals of Darkwater to reveal what they know will require proficiency in Eloquence and Psychology. Pierce's Strength skill may also come in handy for when brute force is necessary, or to intimidate impressionable people into offering whatever they’re hiding. Expertise in Medicine and Occultism, improved only through discovering unique books and artifacts throughout the investigation, may grant additional insight – but knowledge can be a curse in Call of Cthulhu. The more aware Pierce is made of the horrors that dwell beyond the fabrics of reality, the more he will fall to insanity, impeding his ability to draw logical conclusions.

Pierce is but a mortal man, with few allies in a remote, unfriendly environment. Whether outnumbered by mortal adversaries or facing foes whose mere existence is beyond human comprehension, offering physical resistance is usually not an option. Making the most of Pierce’s extensive set of skills, along with subterfuge and stealth, is paramount… though escaping the gaze of the Great Dreamer may ultimately prove futile.

Call of Cthulhu releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 30. Digital and retail preorders are available on PC and consoles.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Dramatically Reduces PS4's Exclusivity Window
Sep 22, 2018 - 6:44 AM - by Emabulator

GameSpot has the story.

Activision has confirmed that the post-launch DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be coming to PS4 first before also launching on Xbox One and PC. That's no surprise, as the PS4 has received early access to DLC expansions on every Call of Duty game since Activision first partnered up with PlayStation for 2015's Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. However, this time the PS4 has a much shorter exclusivity window.

For Black Ops 4, Activision has announced that the PS4 will only have a one week head start on the Xbox One and PC when it comes to playable post-launch content. This includes all seasonal events, as well as new specialists and maps for multiplayer. The Nuketown multiplayer map will come to all platforms in November, followed by new specialists in December. Past Call of Duty games have given the PS4 two to four weeks exclusivity on certain updates. With that window shortening so dramatically, it suddenly doesn't hurt as much to be pre-ordering Black Ops 4 on Xbox One and PC.

Report: Netflix in Talks for Diablo Animated Series
Sep 22, 2018 - 6:33 AM - by Emabulator

Game Informer has the story.

Hot off the heels of the successful Castlevania animated series, Netflix might be looking to add another video game adaptation to its library in the form of Blizzard's Diablo.

Andrew Cosby, founder of comics publisher Boom! Studios, tweeted on Wednesday that he's in talks to write the series in collaboration with Netflix and Activision-Blizzard. While the tweet has since been deleted, likely because it was publicly referring to a project that has not been announced, Variety managed to catch and report on it.

Judging by Cosby's pedigree as the writer of the new Hellboy reboot and Netflix's penchant for more adult animation, Castlevania included, a Diablo series would likely veer toward the more mature end of the animation spectrum in terms of subject matter and violence. Seeing as how it's only in talks right now, however, it might be some time before we see anything from it.

Telltale Games Shutting Down
Sep 21, 2018 - 1:43 PM - by Evil Avatar

Multiple developers have taken to social media to announce that studio Telltale Games is shutting down, letting go all but 25 employees -- and only keeping those 25 to finish a single project before the studio closes. Gamasutra has the word.

While Telltale Games representatives have not yet responded to our request for comment and further details, word is spreading that the studio maintains only a skeleton crew (25 people out of what was estimated to be a staff size of ~250 people) to complete work on a single project. The rest were let go this week, reportedly without any severance, and it sounds as though all of the company's other ongoing projects are in jeopardy or have been cancelled outright, including The Wolf Among Us 2.

Destiny 2 Gambit's Free Weekend
Sep 21, 2018 - 10:45 AM - by Evil Avatar

With the base Destiny 2 free for PS Plus members through the month of September, Bungie is determined to sell newcomers on Forsaken -- and that means giving players a taste of what they're missing. The developer is making Forsaken's Gambit multiplayer mode available to everyone between September 21st and September 23rd. It might be worth a look, especially if you're not usually fond of human-versus-human combat.

Gambit is a hybrid mode that has two four-player teams racing to kill AI enemies as quickly as possible to fill an energy bank. When that bank tops up, you can summon a powerful Taken creature and assault the enemy team with a major advantage on your side. Moreover, you can throw a monkey wrench into your opponents' plans by sending one player to attack rivals once you've reached certain in-between milestones. You can have the thrill of competition without having to master the human-on-human combat skills that dictate the Crucible.

Fun mode and you need pistol kills in Gambit to unlock the Ace of Spades.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Hands-On Impressions
Sep 20, 2018 - 7:18 AM - by Evil Avatar

Straight away, the attention to detail is striking. Red Dead Redemption looked phenomenal at the time of release, but it seems barren and flat in comparison to RDR 2’s world. There’s varied topography everywhere you look, landmarks pepper the horizon, and the world feels alive. Rabbits scarper out from bushes, birds soar overhead, and the wind sees snow swirl through the air like dust. The snow, Dutch’s jacket, the horses’ tails, and the little string tied around Arthur’s hat are all physically simulated. The Rockstar reps tell us each tree in the map was individually placed. We believe them.

It’s a relatively minor change amidst the scale of this game, but Red Dead 2’s option to name your horse speaks to the bond the developers feel you should have with yours. Every breed has different strengths and weaknesses, acts as an overflow inventory for anything Arthur can’t carry, even becomes a lost-and-found (if Arthur loses his hat or gets disarmed, the dropped item will reappear in the saddle). You’ll be relying on your animal - and the better you treat it, the better it’ll treat you. Feeding and grooming your horse builds its level of affection towards you, governing whether they’ll respond to your whistles, if they’ll buck at gunfire, even whether they can perform dressage.

After a long ride out to a location within a forest, the four men approach the rival camp quietly. A nearby patrol stops to let one of its members relieve himself, and again we were given the option to send in Bill to take care of things or do it ourselves. Unfortunately, our stealth takedowns attracted too much attention from the rest of the patrol, and we quickly took cover in the trees and used a mix of pistols, rifles, and our bow to thin out the defending force. Red Dead Redemption 2 still features a similar kind of auto-aim assistance to the previous game, whereby zooming in with the left shoulder button will snap your cursor to an enemy--helpful because we found bodies hard to make out amongst the forests' dense foliage, and we didn't have a scoped weapon. We were reminded again how familiar shooting felt to Red Dead Redemption, but it was nonetheless still satisfying to confidently line up a string of headshots with the bow using Dead Eye.

Red Dead Redemption 2 uses a weapon system that’s similar to that of Rockstar’s Max Payne 3. Arthur can carry a maximum of two one-handed weapons and two long weapons (two rifles, or a rifle and his bow). He also packs his hunting knife, a lasso and throwable weapons such as, well, throwing knives. All of this is controlled by a weapon wheel, although dual-wielding is a skill you have to unlock. You hit L1 to pull out or put away your weapon, and of course, it may be wise to keep your gun holstered when talking to people.
An interesting take-away from these hands-on previews is that you can also play the game in first-person mode.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Beta in November
Sep 19, 2018 - 7:44 PM - by Evil Avatar

Rockstar has leaked out a few new details on the online mode for Red Dead Redemption 2, including word that multiplayer will not launch along with the game and will have a beta period sometime in November. Gamespot has the news.

Red Dead Online, the new "online connected experience" for Red Dead Redemption 2 will not be available at launch. Players will have to wait until sometime in November to try it out.

But why? Design director Imran Sarwar said in a new interview that Rockstar sees the single-player and the multiplayer elements as "separate products." Each will "grow and evolve independently of each other," he told IGN.

Sarwar added that Rockstar learned from previous releases that launching big online games is a tricky task. "There are bound to be a few issues and we want to ensure that we have time to gradually roll out the game and make the experience as smooth as we possibly can for everyone," he explained. "We believe this way of rolling out will give people the best overall experiences with both single player and multiplayer."

The launch of Red Dead Online comes in the form of a public beta, so players can expect the experience to be a work in progress. Rockstar is expecting some "turbulence" at launch, adding that the studio looks forward to working with the community to make Red Dead Online everything it can be.

Resonance of Fate 4K / HD Edition Announced for PS4 and PC
Sep 18, 2018 - 8:45 PM - by Evil Avatar

Tri-Ace’s Gun-Slinging RPG Classic Resonance of Fate Remastered as a 4K/HD Edition for PS4 and PC

Japan-based software developer tri-Ace today announced that it has remastered its classic tactical gunplay role-playing game Resonance of Fate in 4K HD as a digital-only release on PlayStation 4 and, for the first time, on PC. The steampunk aesthetic, fateful story, soaring symphonic soundtrack, and intense gun combat for which the game is known now burst to life and play out in incredibly high resolution. All the action is set to a magnificent music score composed by Motoi Sakuraba and Kohei Tanaka.

Launching with the new Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition website and 4K trailer, PS4 pre-sales begin today on the PlayStation store, as does the wish-list registration for the PC version on Steam. The game slated for release this October.

Set in the distant future when humankind nears extinction and is ruled by the ‘Basel’ perpetual motion machine – a massive environmental conservation device of man’s own making run amuck; Resonance of Fate weaves a tale of guns and emotional bonds during this end of days. The game’s three protagonists - Zephyr, Vashyron, and Leanne, work as mercenaries and, through their missions uncover the truth behind the ruling Cardinals and Basel.

Originally released in early 2010 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms (and known as End of Eternity in Japan), Resonance of Fate received accolades for its ‘tri-attack’ battle system – a mix of real-time and turn-based controls; the focus on gun combat and gun customization; and its over-the-top cinematic hero actions of the main characters. Critics praised the gameplay and unique combat system that combines strategy with aerial gun battles and fast-paced thrills.

Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition PS4 presales begin today and those ordering the game in advance will receive exclusive PS4 themes and avatar sets. The ability to add the PC version to Steam wish-lists also unlocks today. Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition will be released globally on October 18. 2018 for $35 USD price or EU €35. Capcom Shutters Dead Rising Studio
Sep 18, 2018 - 8:37 PM - by Evil Avatar

Video game publisher Capcom is closing the studio behind its open-world survival horror franchise “Dead Rising,” it confirmed to Variety on Tuesday.

Capcom Game Studio Vancouver primarily develops games for markets outside of Japan. It’s most notably responsible for “Dead Rising” and the free-to-play game “Puzzle Fighter.” But, Capcom said it’s currently reviewing “the allocation of its development resources that support the production of world-class content.”

“Capcom has been focused on increasing the efficiency and growth of its game development operations,” a rep told Variety via email. “To support this objective, new R&D facilities and annual hiring have been underway at the Osaka headquarters. In consideration of this process, as a result of reviewing titles in development at Capcom Vancouver, Capcom has decided to cancel the development projects at this studio and will concentrate development of major titles in Japan.”

“As part of this overall direction, the Capcom Vancouver studio will suspend operations, effective today, so the current staff will be laid off and the office will be closed.”

About 158 employees were impacted by the studio’s closure. They will receive severance packages for their service, Capcom said, and a skeleton crew will remain in place until January 2019 to finalize the studio’s closure operations and logistics.

First trailer for The Little Mermaid Horror Movie Released
Sep 17, 2018 - 8:33 AM - by Evil Avatar

Disney has a live-action version of The Little Mermaid in the works.

This movie is very much not that.

This is Mermaid’s Song, an upcoming horror film take on Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale starring Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon (who played Ramsay Bolton in the HBO series).

The official description: “The film is set during the 1930s Depression and tells of young Charlotte, who is struggling to keep the family business afloat. We’re not sure if that’s supposed to be a pun or not, but description continued: “When gangster Randall [Rheon] offers to pay off the family debt he demands some illegal changes to the business. But Charlotte, like her mother before her, is a mermaid capable of controlling humans with nothing but her voice, which creates a battle between all of those who want Charlotte’s magical powers for themselves.”

The Predator Becomes Franchise Newest Box Office Bomb #ThePredator

PC Gamer has the story.

General availability of Nvidia's next-generation GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics card has been delayed by a week, the company has announced.

It was supposed to go on general sale on Thursday, September 20, but it will instead be available a week later, on September 27, Nvidia said in a forum post.

Take Two CEO: 'I'm sure streaming will happen'
Sep 16, 2018 - 7:42 AM - by Emabulator

MCV has the story.

Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has opened up with thoughts about the future of gaming, specifically in relation to how much impact streaming services can and will have.

Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference, as reported by GI.biz, Zelnick was asked about his thoughts on streaming services for games. “I think streaming will happen,” he said. “There are numerous companies that are looking at it. The companies that are best positioned to pursue streaming are technology companies that have hyperscale data centers all around the world.

“So you know what that means: there aren't very many of those because you do have to address latency, and you do have to be pretty close to where the consumer is in order to address latency. Do I think that will happen? I'm sure it will happen. I think that will happen in one to three years. Does it increase the total addressable market? Naturally, it does, because you don't need to buy a box in order to play our games. You'll probably need to buy a controller, and those will be available.”

This stance, while more cautious, echoes sentiments from EA, which recently said it believes streaming ‘will happen’ at some point in the future. Obviously it’s already happening, but not in the widespread, technically sound way Zelnick and EA is getting at.

That said, Zelnick isn’t convinced streaming hitting the mainstream would have as huge an impact as some think: “I can't sit here and argue it will be a sea change in the business,” he said, “I know one of our competitors has argued that, but my view is we should really talk about what we can control, which is making really great content. And probably leave stuff that we can't control--massive hyperscale distribution systems--to other people, except to make the point that if they're there, we'll be there. It's the same way that if someone wanted to open a video game store next to GameStop, we'd sell to them tomorrow.”

Project Judge - Gameplay Impressions of New Game from Yakuza Creators
Sep 15, 2018 - 11:02 AM - by Emabulator

VG247 has the story.

Project Judge is the latest game from the team behind Yakuza – but it’s got more in common with that series than you’d think.

It’s so similar, in fact, that we feel pretty confident in suggesting that Project Judge, also known as Judge Eyes, might well be set in the same universe as and tie in to Yakuza. One of the most significant differences is a narrative one, in fact: in Project Judge, you don’t play as a criminal. Quite the opposite in fact – protagonist Takayuki Yagami is a judge, thus the game’s title – but after a personal tragedy, he turns detective.

The lineage back to Yakuza is clear in many aspects of the game: its look is straight from those games and clearly running on the same ‘Dragon Engine’ tech, and the slick, gorgeous portrayal of Japan’s cities is quite familiar. There’s combat that features similar combo systems, though there’s a fluidity and rhythm to the action that sets it apart from Yakuza.

Yagami has his own unqiue fighting style, but you can still pick up objects in the environment or do things like smash open trash bags before picking up items inside (beer bottles, truncheons, vibrators – all the stuff you’d expect) and using them to smash your foe’s heads in.

Treyarch says it will tackle teamkill looting in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout
Sep 15, 2018 - 8:19 AM - by Emabulator

Eurogamer has the story.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode has been out for a week now (check out impressions here), and Treyarch continues to update not just the game but the community. This time, it's announced plans to tackle teamkill looting.

The battle royale mode, which is currently in beta, has friendly fire enabled, which means your teammates can kill you. In Blackout, like in other battle royale games, you can loot dead players, including your teammates. While this is a valid strategy, some people are deliberately killing their teammates in order to loot their corpses. You can play Blackout solo, in teams of two or in teams of four, and while Treyarch encourages you to play with friends, it's not always possible. And so, griefing can and does occur.

In a post on r/BlackOps4, Treyarch pointed to the "report player" function in the game's social menu, and insisted it is banning players for intentional teamkilling. But it also agreed with the community's call to prevent teammates from looting their dead teammates.

"We agree with this approach and are adding this, or something similar, to our 'To Do' list," Treyarch said.

"We have a zero-tolerance policy for intentional teamkillers. Be sure to report them so we can bring the banhammer down."

Nintendo Restricts New Switch NES Controllers Behind Online Subscription
Sep 15, 2018 - 8:07 AM - by Emabulator

GameSpot has the story.

During Nintendo's September Direct, the company announced a new Joy-Con controller for Switch. These new Joy-Cons are shaped like NES controllers, and you'll only be able to buy them if you're an online subscriber.

The new controllers have the same Joy-Con bluetooth connection, so you'll be able to play wirelessly and charge your controller by connecting them to your Switch or a Nintendo charge station. That being said, you can't use the controllers while they're plugged into your Switch, so you can't use them in handheld mode. Two controllers, a right and a left Joy-Con, are sold in each box for $60. Shipments of the controller begin in mid-December 2018.

Fortnite On Switch Won't Require A Subscription To Play
Sep 15, 2018 - 7:57 AM - by Emabulator

Game Informer has the story.

In further news of the Nintendo online subscription service going live soon, Epic has revealed that Fortnite will not require the paid subscription to play.

In their official FAQ for the online service, Nintendo included a note that there are exceptions for the online play cost. While there weren't a lot of specifics, Fortnite got called out as an example of a game that remains free.

“Some games, such as Fortnite, can be played online without a Nintendo Switch membership,” the FAQ reads.

It makes sense to make an exception for Fortnite. As a free game on pretty much every platform, putting a barrier to entry means the player base will just go somewhere else to play. If they decide to switch to PlayStation 4, then they won't ever be able to come back to the Switch. On Xbox Live, an active Gold subscription is required for a lot of free-to-play games, but specifically not Fortnite. Epic also got an exception to using Nintendo's voice chat app on mobile phones for the game and uses the system's built-in port.

Weekend Headbanger - What are you listening to? #DeeSnider
Sep 15, 2018 - 7:29 AM - by Emabulator

I have been listening to Dee Snider's latest album, For The Love Of Metal. The ensemble album has an interesting backstory, which you can read about in Decibel's review of the album.

Dee Snider’s latest solo album started the way I imagine lots of good things start: from a challenge by Hatebreed vocalist Jamey Jasta. Jasta convinced the legendary Twisted Sister frontman that he’s become an icon in metal and that he needs to do a contemporary metal album. Snider accepted, although even he admits he was a bit shocked that For the Love of Metalended up happening as well as it did.

“It’s a surprise to people; believe me, it was a surprise to me,” says Snider. “Jamey’s challenge… I’m all about accepting a challenge. I’m glad nobody challenged me to do a children’s record, because I would have done it [laughs]. Jamey said, ‘Think Halford. Think what he does.’ Somebody likened it more to Halford’s Fight than Halford, which they felt is more of a Priest record. So that was the challenge. I had my doubts. Especially with other people writing music, because I knew I’d have to sit there and imitate to write something contemporary. I said, ‘Who’s writing?’ and Jamey said, ‘Everybody is going to want to write for you, Dee.’ There was an outpouring, and Jamey produced it and guided it.”

Unlike when some old rockers make a “contemporary metal” (shudder) album, For the Love of Metal sounds genuine, sounds like Snider’s heart is still in the right place. Because it is.

“I love contemporary metal and I think that’s why it sounds so genuine,” he says. “I go to shows. My kids are all metalheads, especially my daughter, she’s hardcore. Over the years, because she was so young, I had to escort her to these shows, so I was exposed to all these hardcore bands. I love the passion, and I love the ‘I got nothing to lose’ attitude that these bands have. That’s what you lose when you’re successful. You lose that fearlessness. I’d much rather listen to bands that have that heart and that passion than listen to people who have lost it. I’ve always been in tune with that and have loved it. Jamey, in writing, we sat and talked endlessly about what matters to me now and about what I wanted to say now and where was I at emotionally now.”

Assassin's Creed III Getting Remastered
Sep 13, 2018 - 9:55 AM - by Evil Avatar

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s season pass will include, among other things, a remastered version of Assassin’s Creed III, publisher Ubisoft said today. There’s also downloadable content set in Atlantis, DLC surrounding the “first hero to wield the iconic hidden blade,” and a remaster of Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation.

The Assassin’s Creed III remaster will also be available standalone for PC, PS4, and Xbox One when it goes live in March, Ubisoft said.

There’s a meaty collection of goodies in Odyssey’s season pass—as there should be, for $40—and includes two big DLC packs that encompass three episodes each, with new episodes releasing every six weeks. The first pack, Legacy of the First Blade, is for big Assassin’s Creed nuts—it’ll start this December and tell the story of the first Assassin, who apparently wasn’t Bayek? Said Ubisoft: “This episodic adventure will introduce players to the first hero to wield the iconic hidden blade, changing the course of history. Players will learn more about the backstory of the Assassins and why they choose to fight from the shadows.”

The second DLC pack, The Fate of Atlantis, is a sequel to the iconic Indiana Jones game. Just kidding. It’ll take you to the infamous underwater city, which sounds incredible.

Ubisoft also says there will be free new content for everyone who buys Odyssey, which comes out October 5. Here’s what you’ll get, via Ubisoft:
  • The Lost Tales of Greece: Free episodic questlines will release regularly in-between episodes, providing a constant flow of new stories for players to discover. These quests will feature familiar faces and new characters from the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
  • Recurring In-Game Events: Each week a new epic ship or mercenary will appear, presenting players with challenging battles as they hunt down these powerful enemies. Daily and weekly contracts will send players on new quests across Greece.
  • Discovery Tour: The educational tool will let players explore the game world in a conflict-free environment and learn about Ancient Greece’s monuments, culture and history.
  • Many more updates, including new monstrous and mythical creatures to defy and a New Game Plus mode presenting new challenges and the ability to see how different choices affect players’ stories.

Henry Cavill is OUT as Superman
Sep 12, 2018 - 7:54 AM - by Evil Avatar

The Hollywood Reporter has the sad news that Henry Cavill will not appear in future Warner Bros. films as The Man of Steel after talks broke down between him and the studio over a cameo in Shazam!

The DC cinematic universe appears to be losing its Man of Steel.

Henry Cavill, who has played Superman in three films, is parting ways with Warner Bros., sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Though neither side is confirming, the British actor, who first donned the blue suit for 2013's Man of Steel, and then starred in 2016's Batman v. Superman and last year's Justice League, is said to be hanging up the red cape.

Warners had been trying to enlist Cavill, who most recently co-starred in Mission: Impossible — Fallout, for a Superman cameo in Shazam!, which stars Zachary Levi and will bow April 5. But contract talks between Cavill's WME reps and Warners broke down, and the door is now closing on other potential Superman appearances.

That's because the studio has shifted its focus to a Supergirl movie, which will be an origin story featuring a teen superheroine. This effectively removes an actor of Cavill's age from the storyline's equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore.

Furthermore, Warners isn't likely to make a solo Superman film for at least several years, according to another source. "Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors," says a studio source. As such, Cavill will join Ben Affleck, who isn't expected to reprise his role for director Matt Reeves' forthcoming Batman stand-alone film, as a hero on the way out.

A Warners source says the Shazam! deal fell apart because of scheduling conflicts. And that is backed up by the fact that Cavill recently signed on to star in the Netflix series The Witcher. However, another source says that the Witcher commitment came after the Warners impasse, suggesting a change in Warners' strategy.

"There's a recognition that some parts of the previous movies didn't work," says the studio insider. Another source says Warners is trying to hit a "reset" button with the DC universe, steering its ship slowly into another direction.
I didn't think that The Man of Steel or Justice League really did the character any favors, so I don't think I mind them looking for a fresh start. Superman shouldn't be the brooding loner, that's Batman. Superman should be their fun character.

Yakuza Studio Announces Project Judge for PS4
Sep 11, 2018 - 8:15 AM - by Evil Avatar

Sega is proud to announce that the new courtroom thriller from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, Project Judge (working title), will release in 2019 on the PlayStation 4. Project Judge will feature the voice acting talents of Japanese actor / artist Takuya Kimura as the game’s main protagonist, Takayuki Yagami.

Project Judge takes place in modern day Tokyo, following a serial murder case. The main protagonist, private detective Takayuki Yagami (played by Takuya Kimura), is a man of conviction who fights for his beliefs, despite the overwhelming despair surrounding him. Kimura has met extensively with the game’s development team to craft this protagonist, dedicating more than 1,000 minutes of voice recording time for his lines. By putting forth so much effort in developing this role, Project Judge aims to redefine what it means to truly bring a character to life.

Other talented actors, including Akira Nakao, Kenichi Takito, Shosuke Tanihara, and Pierre Taki were brought in to play the game’s supporting roles. Additionally, the rock band Alexandros enhances the drama to its peak with the original theme song Arpeggio and feature song, Your Song. This game is developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios headed by Sega Chief Product Officer Toshihiro Nagoshi. The studio is known primarily for their work on the Yakuza series, which has sold over 11 million copies worldwide. To create an experience in line with the studio’s core belief to “Create enjoyable games that address mature themes” the team spent more than 3 years developing Project Judge‘s story and characters.

Enhancing the game’s position as a courtroom thriller and embodying the feeling of playing a detective, players will need to utilize key investigative skills in conjunction with unique gameplay features to unveil the truths hidden at the core of Project Judge‘s plot.

What lies beyond the suffering and failures of the man trapped within his past; is it a divine revelation, or something more sinister? Stay tuned for more information on Project Judge, the courtroom thriller action game brought to you by the prolific tag team of Takuya Kimura and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios.

Passed through many Toys-to-Life games in my life due to the toys, they were neat, but game-play was always lacking.

In this one I like the theme, the design is nice, prices probably won't be cheap but what I wait to see is gameplay, if it's good, I'm willing to jump in, if it's childish, maybe in two years when it's super bargain for everything.

Two Riot Games Employees Out After Social Media Posts About Controversial PAX Panels
Sep 08, 2018 - 1:06 PM - by Emabulator

Game Informer has the story.

Riot Games, the studio behind the popular MOBA League of Legends, has been a subject of controversy with alarming frequency over the last few weeks. After numerous accusations of sexual harassment and toxic work culture, Riot released a statement promising to do better for its employees and its fans with a number of agenda points and actionable statements. This lead to another controversy this past weekend, where Riot Games held a PAX panel exclusively for women and nonbinary people on the subject of getting women into games professionally.

The League of Legends community, specifically on the game's subreddit, was not fond of this move. Many accused Riot of trying to solve their sexism problems by engaging in sexism against men. It became a particular sore spot as Riot had allegedly asked the mods of the subreddit to remove discussions about sexism in the previous few weeks, so the community already felt aggrieved by the developer.

During the commotion, Riot systems designer Daniel Z. Klein made his presence known by commenting on the subject, calling the complainers "manbabies" and laid the blame on "violently angry" protesters for making the community feel "fucking terrifying" in a follow-up reddit post. Another Riot employee, communications designer Mattias Lehman, backed up Klein on Twitter, arguing that the "both sides" mentality misses the forest for the trees.
