The Expanse picked up by Amazon for Season 4

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos made the announcement at the International Space Development Conference: where he appeared next to members of the show’s cast: “The Expanse is saved.”

Alcon Entertainment Co-Founders and Co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson issued a statement, confirming that Amazon would be picking up the show: “We couldn’t be more excited that The Expanse is going to continue on Amazon Prime! We are deeply grateful that Jeff Bezos, Jen Salke, and their team at Amazon have shown such faith in our show.”


I'm pretty happy about this, I would have preferred Netflix because I like more of their original content. But this is still great.

DICE Boss Says Battlefield V's Women are here to Stay

The boss of DICE has said "player choice and female playable characters are here to stay" after some people said they were upset with Battlefield V letting users play as a woman in the World War 2-set shooter.

Women feature heavily in Battlefield V's marketing material, in the game's debut trailer, in posters at reveal events and on the cover of the box. You can also play as a woman in the game.

Some people are upset by this, but in a strongly-worded statement issued to Twitter, DICE GM Oskar Gabrielson dismissed the complaints.

"First, let me be clear about one thing," he said. "Player choice and female playable characters are here to stay.

"We want Battlefield V to represent all those who were a part of the greatest drama in human history, and give players choice to choose and customise the characters they play with."

Some people say they're upset about women in Battlefield V because it's not "historically accurate". Gabrielson said this misses the point of the series.

"Our commitment as a studio is to do everything we can to create games that are inclusive and diverse. We always set out to push boundaries and deliver unexpected experiences. But above all, our games must be fun!

"The Battlefield sandbox has always been about playing the way you want. Like attempting to fit three players on a galloping horse, with flamethrowers. With BFV you also get the chance to play as who you want. This is #everyonesbattlefield."

Battlefield V has been announced, and a woman features prominently in its trailer and cover art. This has upset certain corners of the internet, whose main complaint is that depicting women as frontline combatants is historically inaccurate despite numerous - albeit exceptional - examples of them being exactly that.

Ah, but see, EA thought of this. If you’d like a dude on the cover of your copy of Battlefield V, you can have one - by paying an extra $20 for the deluxe edition. The standard edition - which, as we’ve noted, features a woman with all her incomprehensible vaginas - will set you back $59.99 (£54.99), while the deluxe costs $79.99 (£69.99). A small price to pay so you can put a picture of a man in your desk drawer and never look at it again, we think you’ll agree.

Apple Rejects Steam Link iOS app because of “business conflicts”

VG247 has word that Apple has rejected Valve's Steam Link app.

The Steam Link app is a software version of the device of the same name. It does what the Steam Link was designed to do; let PC players stream their games over LAN to their phones, or the TV through Apple TV.

Valve designed the app to work with both, and it’s already been released on Android, but it seems Apple has other ideas. The app was actually available on iOS in beta for a while before Apple pulled it.

“On Monday, May 7, Apple approved the Steam Link app for release. On Weds, May 9, Valve released news of the app,” explains Valve in a statement.

“The following morning, Apple revoked its approval citing business conflicts with app guidelines that had allegedly not been realised by the original review team.

“Valve appealed, explaining the Steam Link app simply functions as a LAN-based remote desktop similar to numerous remote desktop applications already available on the App Store. Ultimately, that appeal was denied leaving the Steam Link app for iOS blocked from release.

“The team here spent many hours on this project and the approval process, so we’re clearly disappointed. But we hope Apple will reconsider in the future.”

Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness Launches on June 5th

Today, Ubisoft announced Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness, the first post-launch adventure, will release on June 5th across all platforms. The first DLC will transport players back in time as they play Hope County’s Wendell “Red” Redler, who must find and rescue his fellow squad members from hostile forces during the Vietnam War. Hours of Darkness can be purchased as a standalone DLC or as part of the Far Cry 5 Season Pass and Gold Edition.

Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness transports players into a war-torn Vietnam as they relive the harrowing experience of Wendell Redler from the main campaign of Far Cry 5. Playable in solo or online co-op, Hours of Darkness transports players from rural Montana to a dangerous jungle where they must rescue imprisoned squad mates, wreak havoc on the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army, and fight to get back home. This first DLC adventure will feature new gear and abilities as well as two different playable modes that will be unlocked after completing Hours of Darkness: Survivor Mode, giving players a limited load out for a more challenging play through, and Action Movie Mode, where a generous load out delivers over-the-top action.

In addition to the DLC, all Far Cry 5 players will have access to new Vietnam-themed assets in Far Cry Arcade available on May 24th with the release of the Vietnam title update. Map builders will be able to integrate these assets into their existing maps or create new maps focused on the Hours of Darkness theme. All future DLCs will also include thematic assets that will be added to Far Cry Arcade for free.

Alongside today’s title update, Ubisoft released the soundtrack for Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness. Composed by Wade MacNeil (Alexisonfire, Gallows, Black Lungs) and Andrew Gordon Macpherson. Driven by fear, confusion and violence, the music takes us on a journey into the madness of war. With the participation of renowned multi-instrumentalist Kim Uyen Le, Wade and Andrew have created a sound palette that blends traditional Vietnamese instruments with hypnotic, late 60’s psychedelic soundscapes, gritty vintage electronic textures, and pounding rhythmic patterns.

Far Cry 5 post-launch will continue with two new DLC adventures – Lost on Mars and Dead Living Zombies – which will be released this year in July and August. Two additional asset drops will give map builders more tools to create unique Far Cry Arcade experiences. The DLC adventures are available in the Season Pass, or as standalone DLC purchases, while new asset releases for Far Cry Arcade will be available for free to all players.

Star Wars: Boba Fett Movie in the Works from James Mangold

James Mangold is writing and will direct a Star Wars stand-alone movie centered on Boba Fett, the feared bounty hunter and fan-favorite character, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.

The reveal comes as Disney and Disney-owned Lucasfilm prepare for the release of the latest Star Wars stand-alone film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Solo, which opens Friday, is the second movie to be spun from the main Star Wars line — Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the first — but it is the first to focus on a particular character.

Lucasfilm is developing movies on a slew of characters including Obi-Wan Kenobi, which has Stephen Daldry in negotiations to direct, although no writers are working on a script.

It was rumored that Simon Kinberg, the writer-producer behind the X-Men franchise and films such as The Martian, was working on a Boba Fett movie. While Lucasfilm and Disney won’t make any official confirmation, sources say that Mangold will co-write the script with Kinberg, who will also produce the Boba Fett project. Kinberg and Mangold are close, having worked on Logan, the X-Men spinoff that earned high praise last year.

Detroit: Become Human Reviews "Rough, ham-fisted writing"

Ultimately, then, Detroit: Become Human is a game with grand ideals, wonderful levels of polish, and tiny imperfections. It’s an ambitious, wonderfully executed piece of storytelling, and one of the most interesting games of this generation. It will split opinion, and give birth to a litany of opinion pieces - some deep and thoughtful, others half-baked and sensationalist. This spark for discussion alone makes the game a success in its own right. And, yeah, it’s likely to cause a few tears along the way too.

Detroit made me think about topics I've avoided about humanity and our future, and that's a good thing. These are hard issues to explore, and I'm glad Quantic Dream took on the challenge knowing it could result in failure. Detroit both succeeds and stumbles in that area. Its biggest assets are the relationship building and expansive branching paths. I keep coming back to explore its variations. Not only are they fascinating, but I cared about where I left these characters. The overall message about technology and our future lingers long after the credits roll, making me wonder how I'll handle my relationship with technology as it takes us to new places.

Detroit: Become Human is still marred by some of the issues that plague previous Quantic Dream games. Rough, ham-fisted writing and story pacing that's thrown off at times by the playable sections. I'm also pretty sure that most folks are going to get one of the more unsatisfying endings their first time around. But I like the characters, which more than I could say for the last two games. And when I finished the game, I wanted to jump back in and try out some other choices. Quantic Dream is getting better, even if Detroit: Become Human not on par with some of the better visual novels out there.

Despite being built for multiple playthroughs, it's difficult to imagine jumping back in to fix "mistakes" or exhaust every possible outcome for the sake of completionism. I played with my best intentions. Things didn't always go the way I wanted, but that was a burden I chose to bear, and the story benefitted from my commitment, flowcharts be damned. After completing the game, I tried to go back and fight my instincts to see what would happen if I chose a darker path. It never felt justified nor worthwhile. Detroit is well worth playing, but it struggles to strike the right balance between giving you freedom of choice and reminding you that it's all a game in the end. Cage and Quantic Dream are getting closer to nailing this style of game, but it's obvious that there's still room to grow.

Detroit: Become Human wants to move you. It wants to elicit an emotional response through its story. The thing is, it really doesn't. The flowchart is a nice inclusion and adds some variance, but when the narrative is as cringey and ham-fisted as it is you won't want to play through it multiple times.

Sony: VR Market Growth "Below Expectation"

A few years ago, as Facebook forked out $2bn for Oculus and Valve and Sony entered the fray with fancy tech of their own, virtual reality looked like it might have become the next big thing not just in video game land, but in entertainment.

Fast forward to 2018, and things haven't grown quite as fast as some of the major players had hoped.

One of those major players is Sony, which released the PlayStation VR headset in October 2016. As of December 2017, PSVR had sold two million units.

Yesterday, during an investor relations event, Sony said that while the PSVR specifically was growing, growth for the overall VR market was "below expectation".

The line came in a note under the "challenges and improvements" section of a presentation on Sony's video game business, called the game and network services segment.

Clearly, Sony reckons VR has failed to take off in the way it had expected. But it's not alone. Earlier this month, Oculus VR's Matt Conte told Eurogamer sister site GamesIndustry.biz the size of the VR market in 2018 is smaller than it had hoped.

DC's Watchmen TV Adaptation: Showrunner Reveals New Details

In June last year it was reported that a new TV adaptation of the classic DC comic book Watchmen was being developed by HBO. There hasn't been much news about the project since, but now writer and showrunner Damon Lindelof has given fans an update on the project.

Lindelof took to Instagram to post a lengthy essay about the Watchmen TV show. In the piece he speaks about his relationship with Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon's groundbreaking comic over the years, his intentions for the adaptation, and the fact that he knows some fans won't be happy that he is making a new version of Watchmen in the first place.

Lindelof explains that he was introduced to Watchmen by his father when he was 12, and he makes it very clear how important it was to both his developing tastes as a writer and his relationship with his father. He then speaks about the numerous times he was offered the job of adapting the books over the past decade, which he declined based largely on the fact that Moore has repeatedly expressed his unhappiness about adaptations of his work.

The note reveals that although Lindelof did ultimately accept the job of leading the new TV version, he is not planning a direct adaptation. "Those issues are sacred ground and will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted," he said. "They will however be remixed. We are not making a 'sequel' either. This story will be set in the world its creators painstakingly built… but in the tradition of the work that inspired it, this new story must be original.

It has to vibrate with the seismic unpredictability of its own tectonic plates," he continued. "It must ask new questions and explore the world through a fresh lens. Most importantly, it must be contemporary. The Old Testament was specific to the Eighties of Reagan and Thatcher and Gorbachev. Ours needs to resonate with the frequency of Trump and May and Putin and the horse that he rides around on, shirtless. And speaking of Horsemen, The End of the World is off the table… which means the heroes and villains–-as if the two are distinguishable–-are playing for different stakes entirely."

Lindelof also stated that the show will have a diverse team of writers behind it. "In [our writers'] room, Hetero White Men like myself are in the minority," he said. "And as Watchmen is (incorrectly) assumed to be solely our domain, understanding its potential through the perspectives of women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community has been as eye-opening as it has been exhilarating. We've committed to doing the same in front of and behind the camera. And every single person involved with this show absolutely adores Watchmen."

The NPD Group: God Of War Topped The April Charts With Its Record Launch

The NPD Group released its April report today, sharing some great news for Sony. God of War was April's best-selling game, but even more exciting is that it set a new record for highest-ever sales by dollar in a launch month for a PlayStation exclusive game.

With God of War's success, Sony earned its place as April's top-selling publisher. However, Ubisoft still has the lead for the top revenue-generating publisher this year, with Far Cry 5 being the second best-selling game of April. MLB 18: The Show earned third place, only behind God of War for best-selling exclusive. The Nintendo Labo Variety Kit also made it into the top four, while the Robot Kit only ranked at number 21.

Some other cool stats to consider: April's overall spending across all video game hardware, software accessories, and game cards grew 18 percent compared to a year ago, with gains across all categories. Hardware spending also increased for April 2018, increasing 14 percent, with gains for Xbox One, PS4, and Plug 'N Play devices such as the SNES Classic. The PS4 earned the highest April unit sales for a console since the Nintendo Wii in April 2009.

Comcast Confirms Plan To Counter Disney With Richer, All-Cash Offer For Fox

It’s on. Comcast this morning confirmed its plan to make a rich counter-offer for the 21st Century Fox assets that Disney has proposed to acquire.

The move sets in motion what could be one of the all-time merger battles in media. Comcast chief Brian Roberts is set to clash with Disney’s Bob Iger for control of the film and TV empire that Rupert Murdoch and sons James and Lachlan spent years building. While Disney and Fox have agreed to a $52.4 billion deal, Comcast’s counter is believed to be in the $60 billion range.

As many in the media business and on Wall Street had been predicting since word surfaced of Comcast meeting with bankers to line up financing, the NBCUniversal owner and No. 1 U.S. cable distributor said a rival bid is in the “advanced stages.” The trigger for this morning’s announcement, Comcast said, was the filing of SEC documents by Fox and Disney in preparation for special shareholder meetings. The summer meetings are when 21st Century Fox and Disney shareholders are expected to vote on the proposed $52.4 billion acquisition of the Fox assets.

Comcast did not specify a price for its bid in today’s statement. The assets on the table include everything under the Murdoch tent except for the Fox broadcast network, Fox News and the company’s portfolio of local TV stations. In play are the Fox film and TV studios and a lucrative set of cable networks, including FX, National Geographic and regional sports operations.

The only reason a firm offer has not been extended is the all-determining decision expected June 12 in the AT&T-Time Warner antitrust case.

Holospark to Launch Sci-Fi Shooter Earthfall on July 13 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One

Seattle-area developer Holospark announced today that they will release their multiplayer cooperative team-shooter, Earthfall, on July 13 digitally on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Steam, with Gearbox Publishing distributing the game in physical boxed retail. Earthfall has players working together to fend off an alien invasion of the Pacific Northwest - using squad-tactics, portable heavy weaponry, "instant" walls, and more tools as they avoid swarms of horrific intergalactic invaders.

Earthfall will be available on July 13, 2018 for $29.99 USD, with a special Deluxe Edition also available for $39.99 USD, which will include exclusive character biohazard suits and weapon skins.

“We are excited to bring Earthfall to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on July 13. By partnering with Gearbox Publishing on a physical release, even more fans will be able to get their hands on Earthfall on launch day,” said Russell Williams, CEO of Holospark. “We’ve been hard at work on Earthfall since it first launched in Early Access last year, and we’re really proud of what the game has become. In Earthfall, aliens have invaded the Pacific Northwest - and it’s up to you and your friends to fight back! In this co-operative shooter for up to four, players must use team-based tactics to fortify holdouts and complete mission objectives. With an arsenal of 3D-printed weaponry, portable barricades and heavy turrets, players must work together to drive back the alien menace.

Earthfall will feature ten missions across two campaigns, with diverse environments and deadly aliens to battle. As players fight waves of drones and towering monsters, they’ll discover the story behind the cataclysmic alien invasion - and exactly what horrible secrets the invaders are hiding.

Sony Begins To Hammer Nails Into The PS4s Coffin

Today during Sony's Corporate Strategy Meeting, PlayStation boss John Kodera said the PlayStation 4 is entering the end of its lifecycle. While this could have a negative impact on Sony's gaming division overall, it probably won't because revenue from subscription services such as PlayStation Plus may help offset any decline in hardware sales, Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki quoted Kodera as saying. Importantly, Sony is not discontinuing the PS4 now or anytime soon, of course. The system is expected to continue to sell well, as new, exclusive games for it like The Last of Us: Part II, Spider-Man, and others come out.

As some further important context, Kodera was talking to investors and analysts about the health and viability of the PS4 as a platform. Earlier this year, Sony said it expected to sell 16 million PS4s during the year, compared to 19 million during the year prior, so Kodera was more than likely attempting to contextualize and explain the downturn in sales and what that all means. And the wording about the PS4 entering the end of its lifecycle may mean the system still has many years left of viability, only that the console is not rising as fast as it once did as it relates to sales. And of course, that is expected, given the system was released almost a half-decade ago.

Grand Theft Auto 5 has a thriving mod scene, an ever-impressive performance subculture and an Online component that continues to generate new features—and, clearly, revenue—like nobody's business. During its Q4 earnings report, publisher Take-Two Interactive revealed the open world crime sim has shifted 95 million copies across all platforms since launch in 2013.

After detailing net profits of over $450 million in the last quarter, Take-Two addressed GTA 5's haul. As reported by RockstarIntel, the 95 million figure means Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold around five million copies since the publisher's last earnings call.

At the forefront of gaming technology pretty much since the year dot, the PC format has fallen behind in one key area: support for high dynamic range - the future of display technology. HDR screens for PC users are thin on the ground and often poorly specced, while the list of supported games stands at less than 50 per cent of the number found on consoles. Something has to change, and it starts by getting excellent PC desktop monitors out there. This week, Nvidia showed press its highly impressive 120Hz 4K HDR G-Sync technology. The specs of two upcoming HDR screens from Acer and Asus exceed what living room displays are capable of by quite a margin in some respects, and may help in beginning to address the lacklustre HDR take-up we've seen for PC users so far.

PC's lack of traction in HDR is something of a vicious circle. Consider Sea of Thieves by Rare - it features one of the most striking HDR implementations we've ever seen, enhancing the game's distinctive visuals considerably. However, it's only an option for Xbox users - there's no HDR support whatsoever on the PC side. On checking in with the developer about this, we were told that the lack of compatible displays meant that implementing it wasn't a priority. It's an excuse that frustrates us because, of course, PC is just as compatible with living room HDR displays as the consoles, but the divide between the living room and the den/office - each with their own type of display - is still, clearly, a thing... for now, at least.

House Flipper is about renovation, but without all the annoying “work”

If you’ve ever spent an afternoon idly watching HGTV, you know the appeal of seeing a home come together, going from dilapidated wreck to chic living space. The one bummer about it is that doing it in real life requires a lot of physical labor. House Flipper, out now on Steam, gives you the satisfaction of being a Property Brother without all the muscle cramps and stubbed toes.

The game has been an under-the-radar darling of Steam’s Early Access and Greenlight programs for some time now, with prominent YouTubers dabbling in renovation here and there. Now that the full release is out, it’s gaining popularity quickly, and is currently sitting at number one on Steam’s top sellers list.

As you might expect, the goal is to clean and renovate homes and then sell them for a profit, and it gives you quite a few tools to work with. You’ll have to start out by doing simple jobs for homeowners, like cleaning up after messy tenants, or painting over obnoxious color schemes left by the previous occupants. Once you build up enough savings from doing odd jobs, you’ll be able to buy your own houses, which is where the real fun starts.

You can use a sledgehammer to knock down drywall partitions, replace electrical outlets and plumbing fixtures, and completely refurnish your properties as you see fit, selling old furniture and adding new lighting schemes. Some of the places you'll walk into are real disaster areas, and fixing them up feels genuinely satisfying.
After reading that, I checked out House Flipper for myself. I can see why it's so popular. If it sounds like something you might like, you most likely will.

Far Cry 5 and Assassin’s Creed Origins Drive Record Sales for Ubisoft

Ubisoft has released its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31st, 2018. Sales at the firm were up 18.6 per cent year-on-year, reaching €1,73bn (£1.51bn), above its initial target of €1.6bn (£1.3bn).

Digital did particularly well, with 58 per cent of Ubisoft’s sales now being digital against 50 per cent in the previous fiscal year. Mobile revenue was up 66.2 per cent year-on-year.

Ubisoft’s back-catalog kept delivering strong results in the last fiscal year, representing 47.7 per cent of the total sales compared to 44.5 per cent the previous year.

Among the good performances reported by the firm, Far Cry 5 was Ubisoft’s biggest release ever with $310m (£229m) total players spending in its first week. Assassin’s Creed Origins had a “record performance for an Assassin’s Creed game in a fourth fiscal quarter,” Ubisoft’s report also said. Rainbow Six Siege also had record engagement in the last fiscal quarter, the firm reported, with now more than 30m players registered and esports viewership up by about 300 per cent for the Six Invitational.

State of Decay 2 Reviews "a steady drip of bugs and glitches"

State of Decay 2’s zombie-infested maps are good places to scavenge, fight, and survive in. Combat is satisfyingly brutal and the special zombies inspire some real fear of permanent death, even though the Blood Plague turns out to be more of a sniffle. But the bugs are just as persistent as the zombies, and after a dozen or so hours the repetition of both eventually take their toll, making the appeal of replaying feel more limited than I’d expected for a sandbox RPG.

If you can deal with a healthy dose of bugs, State of Decay 2 is an extremely satisfying and unpredictable management sim with a solid action-survival game laid on top. The sequel's improved UI, new multiplayer component, and additional maps help it stand out from its predecessor, even if the moment-to-moment is largely the same.

I ran into a steady drip of bugs and glitches during my solo experience. Some were funny, like watching zombies fall into the world while driving quickly on the roads (roads that, State of Decay veterans should know, now aren’t frequently littered with impassible blockades). Animations unfurl in goofy and unexpected ways. Others were less hilarious, like when items vanished or companions teleported back to base without any provocation. Those issues are magnified in co-op. Characters skitter around each other, barely able to keep up with their friends. Flashlights are basically broken. Cars disappear or warp onto their sides before bursting into flame. Zombies materialize within arm’s reach, and start chowing down on your character before you have time to react. I won’t recite the litany of problems; you’ll see plenty if you spend a few minutes playing the game.

Perhaps if State of Decay 2 had the kind of depth that drew you in, these technical faults would be easier to overlook. But it’s because of the lack of meaningful motivations that they stick out so predominantly. State of Decay 2 settles into a rhythm that might be easy for you to pass some hours with, but it’s never a ride with genuine surprises, excitement or purpose. There’s promise in so many systems that it introduces, but they’re woefully underutilized to make space for repetitive activities that are nowhere near as exciting to engage with. State of Decay 2 feels like the lumbering enemies that populate its country mountains. Aimless, wandering, and just out of place.

GTA V Online Update Adds Battle Royale-Inspired Mode

Rockstar has rolled out another batch of content for Grand Theft Auto V. Along with a new selection of in-game bonuses and discounts, the developer has introduced a new, battle royale-inspired Adversary mode for GTA Online called Trap Door, which is available to play now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Trap Door pits teams against each other on a floating platform that is shrinking "rapidly" throughout the match. Each time a player is killed, they are transported to the red zone, where they're given only a few seconds to escape to the main platform before the zone disappears and dumps everyone within into the ocean.

To commemorate the launch of Trap Door, everyone who participates in the new mode in the next few days will receive extra bonuses. From now until May 21, Trap Door is paying out double the usual amount of GTA$ and RP. You can jump into the mode either from the boot screen or by setting a waypoint to the Featured Adversary mode.

In addition to Trap Door, players will earn double GTA$ and RP for Biker Business Sell Missions, while Smuggler's Run missions will pay out double GTA$ this week. Those who also participated in last week's Business Week event will now find their bonus money waiting in their Maze Bank accounts.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Inexplicably Announced For 2021

Rather abruptly, a website for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has appeared with an accompanying Facebook post announcing a 2021 release.

The website, which you can find here, is sparse on information beyond the title, a year of 2021, and an email address which had not responded to us yet at the time of writing. A separate Facebook post from Sergiy Grygorovych also appeared at the same time announcing the website launch.

Grygorovych is the founder of GSC Game World, the original developers of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. GSC Game World announced in the late 2000s that they were porting the series over to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but decided to move resources instead over to the creation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 to make its 2012 release date. In December 2011, GSC Game World closed its doors for mysterious reasons, with the former S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 devs forming Vostok games. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was officially cancelled a few weeks later for, according to a Facebook post, problems getting the investors and rights holders to agree.

Now it seems like GSC Game World has returned to the series and is resuming or restarting development of the game. We have contacted the parties involved to try and trace back where exactly this game is coming from, but have yet to hear back. In the meantime, you should trace the lineage of the first title in the series, Shadow of Chernobyl, through our deep dive into the title here.

Zombieland 2 With Original Cast Is On The Way, Writers Say

The cult classic Zombieland, which came out in 2009, may be getting a sequel. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick--who wrote the original--told Vulture that a sequel with the original cast might be in theatres by October 2019 to celebrate the original's 10-year anniversary.

"We're going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland,” Wernick said. "Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don't know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2...with the original cast, by the way."

Zombieland starred Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, and Woody Harrelson, as well as Bill Murray in a wonderfully silly and morbid cameo. The movie, which was directed by Ruben Fleischer, made $102.4 million against a $23.6 million budget. It was generally well-liked by critics for its silly story and zombie-killing mayhem.

Wernick added that they will hopefully be able to share more news soon about the sequel, which will reportedly start shooting in early 2019.

"We are sitting on information that we can't entirely share at this moment," he said. "But we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon."

Metro Exodus Delayed into 2019

The Metro Exodus release date has been moved back from autumn 2018 to Q1 2019.

Publisher Deep Silver and developer 4A Games issued a joint statement this morning:

"The development of Metro Exodus is progressing well; we are all really excited by what we are seeing. We have been constantly reviewing the games progress to ensure that we deliver a product that gamers and fans of the Metro series want and deserve, as well as keeping an eye on announcements from our competitor products. We want everyone to be able to experience what is the most ambitious Metro game to date at its absolute best and therefore we have taken the decision to move the release date to Q1 2019.

"We know that this will be disappointing news for fans that had hoped to play the game this year, but also know that you will appreciate the results that this additional development time and new release date will bring. We would also like to take this opportunity to confirm that at E3 in June we will be revealing some brand new gameplay from a never before seen game environment for you to enjoy."

Shenmue 3 has been delayed until next year, publisher Deep Silver has announced. It was due to release during the second half of this year, but developer Ys Net will now take extra time to "polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible time frame".

Game director Yu Suzuki apologised for the delay in a Kickstarter post, saying: "After much discussion with our partners, Deep Silver, we have concluded that extending the release will allow us to deliver Shenmue III at its best. We promise to use this time to improve the quality of Shenmue III."

It's hardly a huge shock: Ys Net has already pushed it back once, having initially penciled in a late 2017 release date.

It was successfully crowdfunded to the tune of $6,333,295 in 2015, which made it the richest video game Kickstarter campaign of all time. We still know very little about it, but back in February we got a bunch of new screenshots showcasing the game's characters.

Mankind is in peril. In the decades following an asteroid’s devastation, most of the earth has become an unforgiving wildland where bloodthirsty factions vie for control of precious resources. Pockets of civilization have emerged to claim their space in the world, but the tentative peace they’ve established is being threatened. RAGE 2 follows Walker, the last Ranger of Vineland, as he fights to survive the chaos of the dystopian world into which he was born. With a wide array of weapons, vehicles and strange powers, Walker sets off to take down the tyrannical Authority. The Open-World Shooterverse

It’s the perfect mix: id Software’s first-person shooter pedigree, Avalanche Studios’ mastery of the open world sandbox, with a healthy dose of pedal-to-the-metal vehicle combat. From the swamplands and jungles where enemies lurk among the dense foliage, to the open deserts where a passing car is more likely to mow you down than offer you a ride, the world of RAGE 2 is not a gentle, nurturing place. The people who have survived in this landscape have had to learn to protect themselves and keep their heads on a swivel, especially with the reemergence of a familiar menace.

As if the gangs and mutants aren’t enough, Walker also has to contend with the Authority, returning antagonists from the first game who threaten anything good remaining in the world. Led by General Cross, the Authority is on a renewed mission to hunt down the few remaining pureblood Arkists left in the world, and Cross is willing to slaughter everyone to achieve his goals. That’s where Walker’s wealth of unique guns and gear comes in – and he’ll need every one of his powerful weapons to defend the wild wasteland he calls home.

Walker, Vineland Ranger

A Ranger’s arsenal isn’t limited to the abundance of upgradeable weapons and toys at their disposal. Fueled by Arkist blood, these elite fighters are the only people in the world who can harness special Nanotrite abilities. However, this blood has also made them a target for the Authority, and after years of fighting, Walker is the only Ranger still standing.

Among the arrows he can choose from his Nanotrite ability quiver are the power to crush enemies into paste from above in a devastating slam attack or send them flying away from him with a lethal energy push. Walker will also learn to channel these Nanotrites into his weapons, pushing them into an awe-inspiring Overdrive, a unique skill that lets him push his guns beyond their limits and unleash absolute hell on his foes. Chain these abilities together to make Walker a powerhouse of destruction, quickly refilling his Overdrive meter. While in Overdrive, Walker’s guns do more damage, they gain new attributes, enemies drop better rewards and Walker’s health starts to regenerate. When timed correctly, Overdrive is more than enough to tip the scales in a tricky fight.

EA's Latest PS4 And Xbox One Golf Game Is Being Removed From Sale Soon

It's the end of the road for EA's latest golf game. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is being removed from all digital storefronts for PS4 and Xbox One on May 22, which is also when it'll be taken out of the EA Access free game "Vault" on Xbox One. It's just the second game to leave the service, following FIFA 14 last year.

The news comes by way of sports site Pasta Padre. The site surmises that this may have something to do with a licensing deal expiring. We have contacted EA in an attempt to get more details, and we'll update this story with anything we hear back.

Rory McIlory PGA Tour, like EA's previous Tiger Woods PGA Tour games, uses a lot of different licenses. The game features the likenesses of many professional golfers in addition to McIlroy, including Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, and Jason Dufner. There are also a number of real-world courses such as St. Andrews and TPC Sawgrass that require licensing. What's more, the presentation is voiced by broadcast TV veterans Rich Lerner and Frank Nobilo.

Even after losing Augusta National and bigger-name commentators like Jim Nantz from past games, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour likely incurred a significant and potentially complicated licensing situation that was probably always due to expire at some point.

As of today, Boss Key Productions is effectively no more.

Four years ago I set out to make a world class video game studio and I hired some of the best talent in the video game industry. They worked tirelessly to produce quality products and, while we had our ups and downs, I’d like to think we had fun doing it. LawBreakers was a great game that unfortunately failed to gain traction, and, in a last ditch attempt we scrambled to do our take on the huge battle royale genre with Radical Heights, which was well received, however, it was too little too late.

As for myself, I’m going to take some time off and reflect. I need to focus on myself and family as well as my Aussie, Teddy, who is slowly fading from us. Video games will forever be a part of who I am and I hope to make something new again someday, however, I need to withdraw and take this time.

To those of you who have supported myself and the studio these last four years, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart and everyone who came to work for me.

Please note that the servers for Radical Heights will remain up for the near future.

Leaked Xbox One Controller To Help Gamers With Physical Limitations

Microsoft seems to be developing a new Xbox One controller specifically for accessibility. A leaked image of the prototype popped up on Twitter thanks to WalkingCat, and Windows Central reports that it has heard the controller will likely be unveiled sometime at E3 or even before the big event.

The prototype above doesn’t resemble a normal gamepad at all. The first thing that stands out are the two large, raised buttons that comprise most of the controller. These “A” and “B” buttons look to be programmable and will help gamers who do better with touch than sight. Without thumbsticks, the four Xbox One face buttons, bumpers, and triggers, the A and B buttons will have to handle a variety of inputs. The three LED lights seem to correspond to the programmable functions, with the white button toggling user control schemes.

Resident Evil Film Director Making a Monster Hunter Movie Starring Milla Jovovich

There's a Monster Hunter movie in the works.

Paul W.S. Anderson, the director of the Resident Evil movies, is at the helm, and he's working once again with Milla Jovovich.

According to Variety, the Monster Hunter movie has a $60m budget and goes into production this September. It shoots in South Africa, in and around Cape Town.

We don't know anything yet about what the film will be about, or how it'll adapt the loot hunt video game. But the people behind it want it to be a film series, like the Resident Evil movies turned out to be. Apparently there's a Resident Evil reboot in the works, too, but this may end up being a TV series rather than a movie.

Fortnite and PUBG Led to Rocketing Headset Sales, Turtle Beach Says

While battle royale games like “Fortnite” and “PUBG” continue to court their own successes, it appears the sheer magnitude of players they draw is having a halo effect on headphone sales. Or at least that’s what the head of Turtle Beach tells Variety.

“The business is doing really, really well and what’s driving that — beyond our strategy and being a good quality product — is the ‘Fortnite,’ ‘PUBG,’ and battle royale craze, which has introduced a bunch of new people into games,” said Turtle Beach CEO Juergen Stark.

Turtle Beach, which accounts for nearly 46% of the gaming headset market share, saw a 185% increase in net revenue over the same period last year, according to its first-quarter earnings report released this week. The company was selling so many headsets, Stark said, that it will be spending more than $4 million this quarter on air-freighting new stock into the country.

“We have pulled out all of the stops to catch up our supply,” he said.

The spike in second-quarter sales led the company to increase its forecast for both the next quarter and the year significantly. The news also more than doubled the company’s stock on Wednesday.

Sony E3 Plans; Will Focus On Spider-Man, Last Of Us And Other Exclusives

On today's Sony Blogcast, chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden revealed the plans for what Sony's bringing to E3 this year. In lieu of a traditional press conference, the publisher will instead focus on "deep dives" for four upcoming exclusives: Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Spider-Man, and Death Stranding.

Layden also says that Sony will be announcing third-party publishing partners as well as new indie titles. The publisher will not be revealing any new hardware.
